The AI manager in Historical Exhibition mode is just ...

I love OOTP19 (and the versions before it) so if this sounds like a rant, please understand it comes from a place of love.

Trying to imagine what I'd say to the Historical Sims AI manager if it was a real person, not a cruel, cold-blooded robot.

Things like, "Hey, skipper-bot, Howie Pollet has thrown 157 pitches already and now the 1953 Dodgers have the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth. Are you just gonna LEAVE HIM OUT THERE?"

Or ...

"Say, what a lineup you got there. Are you sure you want Joe Dimaggio and Bill Dickey sitting this World Series game out? I mean ARE YOU SURE you want Myril Hoag batting instead of, you know, DIMAGGIO??"

Or ...

"Say, Mr. AI, did you really leave Tom Zachry out there to give up SIX RUNS on 10 hits in the top of the seventh inning just so you could PINCH HIT for him in the bottom of the seventh?"

Or ...

"Naw, AI, it's cool. Rickey Henderson is in the Hall of Fame as probably the greatest leadoff hitter of all time, but if you want to bat him clean-up, BE MY GUEST."

"Hey, Skip. Mr. AI. It's only the seventh inning. Are you sure this is the time to bring in Mariano Rivera? Oh .. right ... of course, Jason Grimsley can close this one. Whatever was I thinking?"

I just wish the AI was less arbitrary and had a bit more awareness of baseball history. I can get around some of this by adjusting both teams' lineups in Historical Exhibition mode. But I can't do much about the boneheaded handling of pitchers. I do understand that, in older days, starters pitched a lot longer. But if they were tiring and the game was on the line?

I don't know if there's a smooth way to fix it. Heck, I don't even know how it works as well as it already does. But I'd be delighted all the same.

I agree the sim is great but do feel further attention could be directed to in game management ... such as pinch hitting and running, relief pitcher selection, defensive subs etc. It might be interesting to see how the community sees - rates- OOTP's AI? Like maybe one could break it down to say general franchise management, team line up formulation, in game management as in bull pen and dugout usage etc.The sim has made great steps over the years and I'm certain will continue to do so.

Thanatoast

If you question they will come from the novel "Field of Screams"
