Do you play as both GM and Manager, or just one?

I've always played as both, but was wondering if anyone just played as one or the other. Gonna experiment with playing both just as GM, and just as Manager today, as was wondering peoples experiences.

Used to play as both manager and GM exclusively, but I just started a save where I'm only the GM and I'm really liking it. Less time consuming and also probably a lot more realistic.

same here - used to do both, but over last year or so, all my games i've just been GM.

Always either GM only or Manager only. I get my kicks out of OOTP by roleplaying, and for that I need other characters to interact with. As a GM, I need a manager to be furious at for mismanaging my players. As a minor league manager, I need a GM to be furious at for taking away my best players (sometimes even sending them down) and saddling me with little league rejects, and just generally mismanaging the franchise.

Commissioner in about half the leagues I have, GM in the other half. When GM the leagues move much slower but both are fun. Switch back and forth usually a month at a time keeps my interest at a high level.

I do both. It satisfies the control freak in me.

Sometimes I enjoy playing only as manager, because I don't like hassling with trades, rookie drafts, injuries, etc etc.

But then the AI general manager trades away my favorite players/pitchers ....

GM/MGR because the AI MGR is Terry Collins only 100x worse

I GM and manage. I also manage every one of my minor league lineups as well.

I generally play as MGR-only. It presents a better challenge, in my opinion, than playing as both. There is a separate thread at the moment about the advantages the human MGR enjoys in each game played out, so the handicap you get by allowing the AI to run the team evens this out a bit. It can go too far, obviously, as the AI GM seems to make trades that could turn Boston into a 60-win team.

I typically only play as GM - the only exception would be the times I've started my way from the bottom and worked up to a Major League GM spot.

Curious how long it takes you to go through a season? For people that manage every game, how long does it take you to get through a season?

Two months if smooth going ...more often 3 to 4 months longer if busy in real life I started moving game forward in 2012 now at end of 2070

I used to go GM/MGR all of the time, but lately have found it more fun to be GM only. As a bonus, since I'm not making lineup decisions I have more time to focus on controlling my minor league rosters. That's been a challenge and a lot of fun.

That sounds about right. I will generally get around 10 games in a week when managing, so it takes about 4 months. Tend to take a couple of weeks off after a “season” ends, then ramp it back up.

Lately been just managing. I suck at all the contract stuff and money usage in baseball even though I have watched and played baseball games my whole life.
