Players Traded Then Released
I finally just bit the bullet and traded away Chris Davis, retaining 100% of his salary, just so I could stop wasting the 25 man spot (he had 120 ABs in the last 2.5 years). The Padres released him a week after trading for him. Which is cool. But I no longer have to pay him any money. And he's not listed under the Padres Salary either. I'm guessing this is a big glitch, as Chris probably won't be too thrilled to not be getting $23mil a year for the next 2.5 years.

In my opinion, it should still be on your salary page. Last edited by Orcin; 09-19-2018 at 08:30 PM. |

you may need comissioner mode for this to be visible, but under Team Settings it lists misc. player expenses, which i believe among other things are released players contracts.
if it's not under Salaries and not listed in Misc. Expense, double check accounting page to make sure it all adds up to missing the expense or not. |

Yes, when a player is released his contract comes off the salary page and should show up under misc expenses...not 100% sure where this shows but in commish mode can see it when editing a team's finances (see image below).
If his salary isn't in your misc expenses then it is likely a bug.

I've posted this in the bugs forum. Attaching an image won't work for some reason, but my Misc Expenses for 2021 is -$7.2mil and 2022 is -$20mil. It was around +$16mil in 2020, but I've already entered the offseason.

Still would be buggy, but also check the "releasing" team?
Maybe the "misc expense" is there as they released. Again, still wrong, but check? |

If you didn’t release the player, then you should not have to take the entire contract in one season. If that’s how it works, it should be fixed.

The Padres have misc expenses of $42,949,672 in 2021 and $27,088,817 in 2022. Davis's contract is $23mil over these two years, so it's possible that it was added to their expenses, but I can't know for sure without knowing what those expenses are made up of.

I replied in your thread on the bug reports, but basically there was a floating point error. You ended up getting ~19M credit those 2 years when you should have gotten charged 23M per year, and thus SD ended up with the 42M penalty when they should have been charged 0.

computers don't make mistakes...
![]() they simply do exactly what we told them to do. orcin, i think a tidbit got lost. he retained 100% of the salary as part of the trade. team a is already paying the bill regardless of where the guy plays or doesn't play. i'm sure the cba could still have some oddities about this context. e.g. release is still team a's repsonibility, but what if another team signs him? that likely reduces from team a's liability by the amount the new team is paying, pro-rated. relative to 'cba's' money is all part of awhole and needs to balance, or there's ways to get more than the designated %-share of said money (owner vs player share). If you think that's bad, I stupidly extended Machado, despite my deep-held belief that he's overrated, and I ended up having to eat over $100m once he started hitting .190. He never saw the majors again. He was only 29.
