Question about quick simming
If I "quick sim" a game and then watch the replay, will it look exactly the same as if I'd watched the game play out in real time?

I'd love some input on this. Just trying to understand how the RNG works to some extent. Like is it seeded at the start of the game and fixed or is it reseeded every time a random number is needed? So I guess I'm asking if outcomes would be different between say watching the first batter, where the rng might be seeded for the entire game, and quick simming the rest or just watching the whole game.

I see no one has responded to your question. I might be that none of us reallly know for sure.
My suggestion. Try it once. See what happens. Stop back here and let us know. I too would be curious what happens when you watch the replay of a sim game |

It isn't really a huge deal, was more about curiosity than anything so not looking to spend a whole lot of time testing to find an answer. Was just hoping someone here might have some insight. |

If you sim a game and then watch a full replay you'll see the detailed results of that particular game as dictated by the game engine, with AI handling both teams (and your preset instructions being applied to your team). However, if you play the exact same game again (e.g. ctrl/alt/del and close out OOTP in Windows task manager without saving the game) then you will almost certainly get a different outcome, regardless of whether you sim our play it out. Each game is unique. I am not the developer, but the randomization that I think you are asking about likely applies to each and every at bat. Some at bats may result in the same outcomes, but many will be different and I expect there's randomization built into the AI management aspect also. Hope that helps. |

The games will be different. There are some cases where the results will be identical (for example, if you're in game, in general saving and reloading will not change the next AB), but otherwise the results will vary. Someday we'll more explicitly change the RNG seeding so that it won't matter if you save and reload, the results would be the same either way, but there's more issues with doing things that way (including ways to cheat that system) that I'm not sure it's worth the effort. I know in some earlier civ versions it was as simple as attacking units in a different order to cheat the RNG, so no point in us putting in tons of effort if you swapping guys in the lineup would totally change everything.
If you're referring to the visuals alone and not the game results, then they should be nearly identical when watching a game vs watching a replay. There will be some slight changes (you'll get different audio, and in some cases due to rounding issues plays may happen slightly differently), but overall there will not be a difference. |

Thank you Matt. I think that explains it about as well as I could expect.
