Force Start: 'starting lineup' and an RP adjustment

as title says:

in addition to dh, 1b, 2b et al. add a "starting lineup" option that leaves the door open for any position that they qualify for.

this would allow for less maintenance for injuries and shuffling of things around. you have a guy forced to play 3b, but an injury makes him more useful at 2b etc.. using this option would simply slide him over if the ai manager felt that way, since he was 'starting lineup', instead of 3b. used wherever ai would normally use them in that given context, but defintiely used. (assumes that's the original intention for that guy too -- gaining exp at both)

or, even a 'rotate/cross-train' option etc. 1/2, 1/3, 1/4 season rotation? even if 1 option hardcoded for simplicity -- 1/3 or 1/4 would be nice.

For 'force start RP role', either make it so those guys are used as setup or often used more (lol order) in their MR role etc... they get used often for RP innings in a forced start role vs a non-forced start role. or, an option for that onus on use in addition to forced role of RP.

on a related note, i'd love to see an option for restricting player usage to certain positions. in online leagues, i routinely get players playing way out of position because the AI just can't meaningfully parse backup positions and the like.

a common example: my Starting Catcher is in at C, my backup C is playing DH. The starting Catcher gets hurt, and frequently the game isn't smart enough to shift my backup C (currently playing DH) over into the catcher slot and then replace the now-empty DH. every in-game season this happens to me more than a handful of times, and it's extremely rare that i don't end the year with at least 10-12 games where some random outfielder or 2b caught several innings.

a way to say "ONLY ever use this player in the following positions" would be awesome.

yeah, if it's currently doing some 'greatest primary fielding sum' it could do catcher, ss, maybe cf? first then fill rest, since those positions are a bit more sensitive.

similar depth charts for offense too as above. prioty c,ss filled or in-game fielding switch + greatest sum for other 6 fielding positions and combinations (multi-position players) -- even if it causes a few more switches late in the game compared to RL i think that's a better alternative.. may only need a 2nd scan to fix problems? an error-correcting loop of some kind.

While I 100% agree with the AI needing to make better in-game substitutions, I have to interject to drop some strategic opinion here. This situation (using your backup catcher as DH) is, in my opinion, extremely poor roster management on the player's part. By rule, if you shift your DH to a position in the field, you lose your DH for the rest of the game (the pitcher will then have to bat). It's one of the biggest reasons you will very, very rarely see a team use their backup catcher as their DH - it's a position with a specific skill set, meaning only those two players can usually play it well, and it would hurt their lineup if they had to switch the DH to Catcher due to injury.

General concept, though, I agree. If we're talking about shifting a 3B over to SS to sub in a player who can only play 3B, then yes, the AI really should be improved in that area.
