I Hate My Owner
Sorry but I have to rant.
I wish there was a why to fire an owner, but there isn't. This guy gives me no money to do anything. I lost my best player after last season because I had zero dollars for extensions. Did that loss of salary free up money for free agents? No. He cut my budget so I still had nothing to work with in the off season. My most recent season just ended. I lost two more star starters because I had no money for extensions. Did losing nearly $20 million in salaries mean I'd have some room for free agents? Heck no. He cut the budget again so I have less than $2 million for free agents and that won't get me anything. Once again I'll spend another off season watching teams add pieces to contend while I try to flip players to get young replacements for guys I'm going to lose after the next off season because I'll have no money to resign them while at the same time try to stay competitive. Oh, did I mention the team has been making a profit the past few seasons? Doesn't matter, I still get nothing to work with. At least guys with no experience to coach and manage in the low minors work for cheap, otherwise I'd have less than nothing to work with. Ok, rant mode off. Back to trying to figure out what I'm going to do with enough money to buy a few buckets of balls, but not any players I'd really like to get.

Hopefully he'll sell the team to an owner that wants to put money into the team.

Or maybe he'll die soon. Perhaps he can have unfortunate accident.

You need money to do that. The three guys I lost started at the minimum and got bigger salaries through arbitration so by the end of the six years they were making serious money. With no money for extensions, I couldn't have signed them to long term deals if I wanted to.

My awful owner sold the team. New owner wants 25 million profit at end of year. Umm ok. Wonder what my players bank robbing rating is

I feel your pain. In OOTP17 I went to the World Series but the owner wasn't happy because I failed to sign a local player. Last year I played with owner goals tuned off. This year I turned them back on and so far have regretted it.

I don't play with owner goal's. My owner annoys and angers me enough without them.

The scene in Field of Dreams when Liotta rolls his eyes and says "Owners" in disgust. I cannot find the gif! Would be perfect. When clutch is everything in life.... Sometimes I am a double play machine.

This needs to be an option in version 20. Of course, there's a chance you could go to jail, but it might be worth the chance. Or you could flee to a country without a US extradition agreement, and start a fictional league there!

I can deal with a tightwad owner that gives me a limited budget
I find a meddling or demanding owner much more difficult |

In my experience the owners have never dictated a budget that's too out of whack from projected revenues.
Edit: Also, forgot to mention, I generally ignore owner goals, as winning cures all. I'll throw them a bone if I see an easy way to do it, but I'm not going to stress about getting a hometown player or increasing profit. The other main goals like attendance can be solved by winning. same.
my new owner sets all budgets & extends players. I don't have much control of the team off the field anymore. it's getting frustrating, but interesting challenge I guess.

if you want that frustration, more power to you.
otherwise, just give him an attitude adjustment, if you want that part of the baseball model turned on for the league in a general sense but not for you. you could be more subtle and just change his birthday so he's ~100 years old, and he'd surely retire or die within a year. someone mentioned russia? maybe a little novichok in his coffee. |
