Thank You!!!!!!
Finally got around to trying a tournament. My first tournament features the World Series winners from the 80's. Very easy to setup and play. Love the fact that stats are kept and accumulate as the tournament moves forward. This is what I've been begging for over the last decade. I would deserve a punch in the gut if I didn't offer a huge thank you for the addition of this mode to OOTP. THANK YOU. I feel like I'm back in my junior high-high school years handing a pillow case full of Strato-o-Matic teams to my dad to select the matchups. Miss you dad

Nice post. I was going to be humorous but given those last two sentences, I think not. Nice post, indeed.

tourney
nice. I have issues with it. Started one with 8 teams and it will only let me play the first "series"- i can't figure out how to NOT sim the other series. Make sense?
i love the concept - but defeats the purpose for me. |

Sim other games in background is on by default. If you change it from Yes(sim games in background) to No(don't sim games in background) you can play out each and every game/series.

Select a game to play. When the game gets to the preview screen(lineups) select the team stats menu upper left. Then look in the center column bottom. You will see simulate world in background. It will be set to yes(default). Change it to no.

David, we should put you in charge of historical tournaments around here. See, that would be your reward for your patience all these years, waiting for this feature, and then being so enthusiastic when it finally happened. Basically, your reward would be more work and responsibility!

I've been planning a post like this since v18 was released, I finally finished a season and did all backups so I could convert my megauniverse and try a tourney. I've always assumed there was an every-four-years international tournament and it's so awesome to be able to actually play it out in-game. I'm managing the Italian team and it's fun to scan the list of guys and grab players from every league around the world! Unfortunately I seem to have set the "accept percentage" or whatever it's called too low, and a couple of the guys from the (US) National Association weren't available. But I wanted to limit the US/Canada teams a bit, so hopefully it will all work out.
![]() ![]() I really like the above view (in v.18 anyway) that shows each country's baseball level and available players. In 1980 the tournament will expand to 24 teams (6-team pools) which will make things more interesting. My other mistake was reading the "number of games per team" box as the number of games played against each other team in a round robin, rather than the number of scheduled games (which is of course the regular OOTP meaning). Anyway I fortunately caught it and fixed it to be a true round robin... I was afraid of extending it and messing up the various league schedules. Next time around I'll change it to a 6 game round robin (2 games per opponent), and then pick one or the other for the 6 game pool (a 10 game play-in would be pretty cool but I may have to start the tournament earlier). Anyway this is fantastic, thanks again for expanding our fictional worlds!

Moving right along...
I'm managing Team Italia in this tournament, as eventually I intend to take over a team in the Italian league and this way I can get familiar with some of the players.
Anyway, I thought I'd share how this went to hopefully entice some people to add an international tournament to their worlds. It's fun! Next time I'll likely change to a 6-game round robin in pool play because all the toughest teams got swept right out of the first round... Also, I thought people unfamiliar with double-elimination tourneys might want to see what the bracket looks like. Interesting results in a few ways... none of the strongest teams got out of pool play (arguably Italia). And both semifinals are rematches of the prior round; Panama was pretty weak so I'm not sure if we can win 2 from the Dominicans this time out. And either way Mexico or Canada will be nasty if we survive. No more weak sisters, even if the toughest teams were broomed out in the first round!
