Can we reverse name order?
Hi, I'm very new to this game and I've been enjoying so far.
One thing I find inconvenient is the name order. Can we change the original "first-last name" order to "last-first name" order? |

Do you mean changing so that names read "Suzuki Ichiro" instead of "Ichiro Suzuki"? I don't think so. I imagine if you are Japanese they look wrong as written in game

If you want to do it for one person or just a couple people, then you can do it manually. If you want all the players to have names like that you could swap the names.txt and first names.txt files. It would only work for new games and not quickstarts but you could eventually get to what you wanted.

there is no in-game option that i know of, but a good suggestion to make in the suggestions forum for sure.
you could export players and swap the first and last name columns. changing the names won't cause any problems. then, re-import to same exact league. it'd be difficult to maintain so easily over time. maybe sorting by pro service years on an export would let you mass copy/paste/swap a column from a sorted player export. may just need an extra step to make it an automated solution. |

Thank you very much everyone!
Maybe I'll just try to get used to the first-last name order then. I hope the developer of this game make an in-game option for this. |

Now I’m wondering, if you modified names.txt with some Japanese characters, would OOTP be able to render them correctly? Hmmm... That would be cool. (If you can read Japanese at least.)

They probably just need to let us order the sequence of columns
I mean all of the screens and stats log and reports are just those columns but OOTP automatically decides the order of the columns. |

could be qualified by country or an unseen field in gui for name order (which would be triggered by coutnry at some point too, i guess) etc, and then it does all the same logic to buid those news stories but it swaps the name variables only.
or, some more sophisticated way that accomplishes the same basic end. db is in stone accross fields. it's the rows that can sort, re-order etc. so that has to stay uniform down the line or be handled otherwise (like a field for 0/1 name order that would be refrenced when any name is called for to match the cultural norm). or in the message and history building (what we see). simply chekcs for nation of birth and calls for a different field for 'first' name. technically, they'd be backward in the db this way. whats easier overall? data entry and use of it in code etc... big picture whatever it is. i made a suggestion and referenced koichi's post above. |
