New to game - excited to start!
Hello all!
I have OOTP 19 downloading right now and can't wait to start. I am an avid baseball fan from Columbus, Ohio...go Indians! Not sure if I am going to start a franchise with them or try to rebuild a team or what. I do not know a lot about the management side of baseball so this will be a challenge. But that's what I'm looking for. Quick question...if I end up getting a new computer..will I be able to transfer my game to a new PC? Thanks! Taylor |

yes.
you'll need to 1) unlicense the game. Even though you get 2 licenses, it's a good idea to undo it if you're not going to use the other computer, just in case of an unforseen disaster down the line. 2) make back ups of your game regularly. i do mine on an external drive. That way, if you have a computer crash your files are safe, and if you need to install the game on your new computer, just re-activate license and then import from your HD. there is a setting when you back-up to include all files. i recommend using that, though the files will be larger and take longer, it also will bring over all your logos, and things, where a simple back-up just brings back your game. there may be an easier, or simpler way, but this is the way i've done it in the past. good luck and enjoy, but plan on getting addicted to this game. After the learning curve, it's hard to put aside at times.

You can also drag and drop the entire saved games folder to an external drive in order to move the existing game to a new computer.
Two tips for a newcomer: 1) Backup, backup, backup. 2) Read the online manual. |

Update-
I opened the game and it runs pretty slow. I have a cheap laptop that's a few years old. Should I not even bother buying the code before getting a new laptop? Or are there settings I can turn down to make it run a little more smooth? Thanks, Taylor |

Wow. Well, this game is definitely not too heavy on resources it needs to run well.
Try rebooting your computer if you haven't already. That usually helps with several services that may be running in the back end and potentially slow down applications, such as this game. It's also possible your computer is just too old. You mentioned getting a new one soon. Maybe it's the sign you needed to pull the trigger ? lol |

The first time you open the game it finishes setting up. Try it again and see if it’s faster.

Welcome to OOTP Tayvon. And by the way, the advice given so far on this thread is very good and very true.

Welcome and have fun, the number of different ways you can play is staggering; I learn something new almost daily. This game has also taught me many new computer skills, I have risen to the Neanderthal level in computers.
Ask all the questions you want someone here will help you with any aspect of this game. |

steam is a game hosting site. you can buy the game through them. It's an alternative way to buy and play the game. the game is exactly the same. Has it's pros and cons, depending on to whom you speak. i've used it. Works well. i prefer the stand-alone direct from company. but that's just me. Neither is bad.

I say yes to all of the above. I would add to start a small test league to get to know your way around before you go all in. There's a lot to learn, try not feel overwhelmed, the more you play the more you'll become familiar with the things you need to know.
As the question of what to do with the Indians, to try to rebuild or what, that's up to you. I'm big on Fantasy Drafts with imported historical players mixed in with the current guys, but that's just me.
