Why do International Free Agents hate me?
It seems like I never get a good shot at signing a good International free agent. Whenever I make an offer, it seems to always be topped by a higher offer.
If I jump the gun, and bid 5 million dollars right away, the player always gets back to me telling me that he prefers the offer from another team (same max bid) It seems like in previous versions (I didn't play v18) the players demanded less money, so it was easier to sign someone. Now, they come right into the game demanding the max ($5m) or close to it. |

So if you see a player asking 3 million and you want him just offer him 5 million 1st day. You will get him. It might still take like 10 tried at re-offering him the same 5 million but he is locked into your team. But say if you offer him 4 million and the AI goes 5 million first you will never be able to get him. I typically just go after 1 player and give him 5 million immediately so I know I got him. |

I am usually the first, but I've never tried it more than once. Will have to give it a shot next time around. Thanks for the tip!

Weird thing sometimes its 1 or 2 offers. Others it goes on the entire period and like the last couple days he signs with you. But you have to make sure you re-offer it every time or you get skipped over. |

Is this how the international amateur free agency is supposed to work? I always just offer $5M on the first day that they become available to the one guy I deem is the best of the bunch and I always get the guy I want, which is obviously good for me but it almost seems too easy and maybe the logic needs to be tweaked?

not as a judgement of whether or not to do it, but i think that's a loophole in the game logic.
while doing what was suggested, i think it's because you are the last to offer 5M, and not that you are the first. if your competition signs just 1 other player, they can't bid 5M anymore. that's where my money is on causality. by repeating an offer, it keeps them in the cycle of a "matching offer" logic or however it handles 2 of the same value offers. if they didn't pick you before, it's not likely they'd pick you the 2nd time unless random (that would just result in you signing them if so on occasion and still following 'this'). eventually, the other teams sign a player and no longer have 5m to offer. Try it out again. If another team is 1st to 5 million the human player cannot click submit on his 5 million offer. So it locks the human out.
Might be a couple of problems with IFA since its a hardcap 5 million now |

I wish the intl FA bidding was a bit more complex like if there was a tie the player would use their personality to make a choice like teams with more compatriots on their roster or teams with more winning tradition etc. Right now it's first to $5 million! Kinda lame.

My suggestion for International Free Agents would be to have a toggle to generate them x days before July 2 like we do with the amateur draft, and allow negotiations for the months leading up to July 2. Then the vast majority of the prospects would have a preferred deal lined up before then and on July 2 the vast majority would sign their contracts. This would allow teams to maneuver their money around more too, because currently if you don't get one of your top picks you'll lose out on spending that money on your next favorite unless you're lucky.
With this system you'd be able to decide the price is too high and shift that money to the next guy before anyone has to sign. In real life they're talking to these guys at 14, 15 to try to get a contract agreed to. |
