Question about this player's contract
I just acquired this pitcher for my 2019 Cardinals from the Cubs in a deadline trade for Michael Wacha.
Looking at his contract details, is he a free agent after the season or will still have control over him for another two seasons. He seems to have some upside, so I'd probably like to keep him around. |

It says he's not even eligible for arbitration yet. You'll have quite a few years of control over him, like six. He only has five days of ML service time accrued.

Another, possibly better, place to look is on the salary page in your front office. It should show you the future control.

Yurpman is right. You will have six seasons of control as long as you keep him on the secondary roster.

FYI, on the left list, when it says "signed through 2019 (minimum)" the minimum refers to what his next contract would be. That could otherwise list "arb" or "possibly arb eligible" or "FA" or stuff like that to denote what his contract status after his current contract expires.

he's on the secondary already.and 1 option is used for current year, so you don't have to worry about MiL FA or rule 5 draft etc. MLB service time is 5 days, so he's a long ways off from MLB FA.
he'll be that ~540k for the next few years or so. Last edited by NoOne; 06-11-2018 at 04:38 PM. |
