My Praise to Backing-Up the game!!

after one big disaster a few years ago, losing 50 years of playing i learned to make backups and how to restore the game from them. Now i make back-ups, a lot of backups.
Two days ago, under the weather, lack of sleep (and not paying attention obviously), i made a few changes to my game and i saved it, making yet another back-up. This morning, feeling better, i returned to make some off season moves and i discovered i could no longer make trades. (That option was greyed out.) Obviously i had changed something import, but i couldn't recall what i had altered, nor after did an hour of searching settings could i find the issue.
So, reluctantly, i went to a back up of about a week earlier. i lost a month of the game (including the play-offs) but i was able to get the game running perfectly again and the trade option was enabled again. YES!!! Replayed the play-offs and made it as far as i did the first time, which was only right, i guess.

it took me a while to learn how to restore from a back-up those few years ago. now i make too many of them, me thinks at times, but after this weekends issue, i'll probably be making them more often.

about a year ago, or so, RchW wrote this piece, with pictures on how to back-up and restore. it's great. i've bookmarked and have returned to it more than once. It's an essential for anyone needing to know how to use the back-up function easily.

Thanks for the PSA. It's troubling, though, about that no trading issue. Many times in computing it's like auto mechanical problems; they don't fix themselves and if you hear/see/feel something wrong with your car and then it goes away, you can bet it's going to happen again.

That's the bad news. The good news is, there is always a cause. You did something wrong, apparently, because I don't recall such an issue being reported here. So best be on your game and carefully watch what you are doing. See if you can pinpoint what it was and prevent it.

Oh, i'm certain the not being able to make trades was something i altered and not a bug or issue with the game. it worked before i made whatever changes, and works great now that i restored to a session earlier than my dumb alterings.
the issue may have been i deleted a couple of old, by passed events (maybe one that wasn't by-passed upon re-consideration!). Yep, need to pay attention when yer changing stuff, and esp. when the game says "make a back-up in case ....." and you don't, thinking, ah, it's not an important thing i'm changing.

but all is well again. back up and running perfectly. loving the game - happy as a clam these days.
