Meet the Mets!!! Dynasty est. 1962 (Version 2.0)
Meet the Mets!!! Dynasty est. 1962 (Version 2.0)
Meet The Mets, Meet The Mets, Step right up and greet the Mets! Bring your kiddies, bring your wife; Guaranteed to have the time of your life Because the Mets are really sockin’ the ball; Knocking those home runs over the wall! East side, West side, Everybody’s coming down To meet the N-Y M-E-T-S Mets of New York town! Will be a career replay! Can i do a better job than 40 wins in 1962? Can i win the world series before 1969? Can i put together another great version of the 1986 Mets, IMO the best baseball team I ever saw? Can i defeat the Yankees in 2000 or another year? Setting up to do a career dynasty with my new playoff format starting in 1962 with an expansion draft. I will be the GM and Manager in Challenge Mode, so i better make sure that i do good. The plan is this: I will play the LAST game of every series during this dynasty and i will present it like i usually do in my other threads. I will simulate the other games and I might play any number of games per day. It will not be a one game per day type of dynasty like my real-time Mets seasons. If i reach the playoffs, however, i will play out each playoff game. I will attempt to complete one season per month. The early years will be tough, but with good drafts and patience, i can bring home a world champion Mets team earlier than 1969. If anyone remembers my first MEET THE METS thread, i had put together some pretty good teams. I won a lot of division titles, NL Pennants and a couple of World Series championships. I will be using a modified playoff system. From 1962 to 1968: Top three teams in each league will make the playoffs. Division Series: Best of three. Championship Series: Best of five. World Series: Best of seven. From 1969-1993: Top two teams in each division make the playoffs. Division Series: Best of three Championship Series: Best of five. (Best of Seven starting in 1985) World Series: Best of seven. From 1994-: Current MLB MODERN Day setup. Five teams in each league make the playoffs. Wild Card Series: Best of three. Division Series: Best of five. Championship Series: Best of seven. World Series: Best of Seven So lets see once again if i can bring some championships to Queens. Looking forward to doing this one more time. Losing is NOT an option! So...get ready to Meet the Mets!! LETS GO METS!!! BRING IT HOME, METS!!! BASEBALL LIKE IT OUGHTA BE!! COMING SOON!! RATED E FOR METS FANS EVERYWHERE!!!

Challenge Rules will be in effect for the start of this dynasty.
I will play the Mets for as long as I can. If I am fired during Challenge Mode, I will kill the Mode and take back control of the Mets and continue the Dynasty. The first few years will be tough, but maybe we can surprise a few detractors. I have already offered some contracts to other coaches that I want on the team and I am pretty sure they will sign. I have already simulated the 1961 MLB season and will begin this report with the 1962 Expansion draft. We do pick 1st so lets see what we can get from everyone else. Tomorrow: The 1961 MLB Expansion Draft.

1961 MLB Expansion Draft Choices
The 1961 expansion draft for this dynasty was one of the weakest I had ever seen in OOTP.
Both the Mets and the Colt 45s really did not have much to choose from. By using ratings and last year's stats, I felt I put together the best team I could with what the other teams gave us. Gus Triandos at C made sense and Russ Nixon will back him up. Taking a has-been Stan Musial might put people in the seats. Gordy Coleman was a logical choice for a backup at first base. Bobby Richardson and Johnny Temple I liked for both to play 2B. Luis Aparicio was a no-brainer. If I had not taken Donn Clendenon, I would not be a Mets fan! On the mound, I feel I could get some good innings out of Johnny Podres and Bob Shaw. Don McMahon will be the stopper with Ryne Duren, Frank Sullivan and Frank Baumann rounding out the bullpen. You can see who is on the reserve roster to fill out the rest of the franchise. I am going to skip the awards and HOF announcements for 1961. Tomorrow: The MLB 1961 First-Year Player Draft to fill out our minor leagues.

1961 MLB Draft!
When I saw Fergie Jenkins, I had to make sure I got him. Tony LaRussa might be a good 2B if he will sign. The 1961 draft really did not have many notables besides maybe Rusty Staub and Lou Pinella.

1961 Rule 5 Draft
I lost Johnny Temple and Jose Pagan to Rule 5. So I decided to draft Harold Holland. The guy had a very good season at AAA and I thought I would give him a chance with a new expansion baseball team.

METS Trade:
Needing another relief pitcher after Rule 5, I decided to trade Wally Post, who did not make the cut for the Mets to STL for Lee Gregory.

I simmed thru Spring Training and lost Stan Musial for 6 weeks.
My first injury for the dynasty. The first of many. Anyway, after the spring was done, I set my wannabes back to the Minors and made my roster for the 1st season of Mets baseball. The PrePredicts have us winning only 57 games and finishing dead last in the NL, of course. So, in our 1st season as a franchise, what do we have to lose? Anyway, ladies and gentlemen, step right up and clap your hands. Its time to... MEET THE 1962 NEW YORK METS!!! First Game up: 4/10/62 @ STL Cardinals (Sportsman's Park)

NY METS 0 STL Cardinals 2 Sportsman's Park In this dynasty, im not going to give much commentary for each game like I do in my real-time season. I will let the automatic Game Recaps tell the story. I also will only put up the league standings pics after Sunday games to prevent clutter. However, this was a good one as I decided to play the Opening Day matchup. Johnny Podres vs. Bob Gibson. Not too bad. Elio Chacon got the 1st Mets hit of the franchise and Gus Triandos got the 1st double. Yeah, we got shutout, but its ok. We went up against Gibson, so I would have been shocked if we had won this game. Next Game: 4/11/62 @ STL Cardinals. (Sportsman's Park)

The Mets get their 1st ever win and boy did they crush the Redbirds. Elio Chacon gets the 1st HR of the dynasty and Leo Burke got the 2nd. Bob Shaw went 8.2 and almost got the CG, but I let Wally Hawkins get the last batter. Gus Triandos is on fire very early. Starting now, I will only play the last game of each series. This way I have a chance to either sweep, prevent from getting swept, split the series or win the rubber game. It will also speed up the seasons considerably. The 3d format that OOTP has created this year has really made it a lot of fun to play the games more than ever. Next: 4/15/62 vs PIT Pirates @ Polo Grounds 2nd Game of scheduled double-header.

I guess these are the kinds of games you get when two expansion teams meet. Stan Musial made a key throwing error in the 8th, but the lineup bailed him out in the 9th. Next Game: 4/19/62 vs STL Cardinals @ Polo Grounds

The Cardinals definitely left Curt Simmons in way too long and that allowed the Mets to have a big inning with 3 runs walked in a 4-run 6th. 5-5 after 10 games. I can live with that. Luis Aparicio, however, suffered a mild shoulder strain and is DTD for 2 weeks. Next Game: 4/23/62 @ PIT Pirates (Forbes Field)

We lose a rubber game versus the Pirates. Bud Daley got hurt again while pitching but will only miss one start. Sam Jones did well in relief. The difference was a big HR by some guy named Clemente. 6-7 after two weeks of baseball. Could be worse. Next Game: 4/25/62 @ CIN Reds (Crosley Field)

We split a 2-game series with the Reds. Johnny Podres has gotten off to a hot start. Gordy Coleman and Elio Chacon are out of the gate fast too. We are playing some scrappy baseball early in the season.

We lose 4 straight to the Phillies at the Grounds. We played well though but the bullpen could not get us the win. After three weeks, we are now 7-12. I have to say something about Polo Grounds. How in the world could they play baseball there for so many years with those wacky park dimensions? Jeez!

This is what you call getting taken behind the woodshed. Nothing went right in this game. We have lost 6 in a row.

I waived Turk Lown because he is garbage and I brought up Peter Olsen from Quincy.
What have I got to lose?

A 10-game losing streak. Well...lets get that out of the way soon. A good game versus the Phillies @ Connie Mack, but we just couldn't break through. Johnny Podres pitches well but he gets no support. On the schedule on the bottom, games highlighted in yellow will be the games I will actually manage. On the days of scheduled doubleheaders, I will always play the 2nd game of the DH. My Record: 4-6

Sam Jones says he is done with baseball at the end of the season.
No trouble and I wish him the best.
