On-going issues for years
In all versions this happens...I understand if it's too hard of a coding issue to fix.
When in-game, under the quick-sim options. If you quick-sim "HALF INNING"....the AI/CPU will NOT remove the pitcher unless injured. I just had a reliever give up 18 runs in a half inning on 133 pitches with 13 walks...simply because I clicked sim half inning. I've seen this before on older versions...I try not to sim by half-innings as often anymore, and these 18 run outbursts are rare...but very annoying when it happens and completely ruins the pitchers season stats. |

Yep. You're right.
What you'll hear is .... the "answer" is .. That's the way it's been, and is. So, avoid 1/2 inning simming. But, I'm with you - this isn't a desirable outcome, or answer. OOTP should strive for better. |

I'm not complaining. I just wanted to report this and mention I understand if the problem is too hard to fix and can play around it.

What??? Are you saying that when simming a half inning a pitcher will NEVER be replaced unless injured?
I have not heard of that. This would be very disturbing. |

I have never seen this behavior. Good to post though. Any oddities in your pitcher stamina settings? This has happened through many versions and oddly I’ve never seen it reported more widespread? Anything else we should know about setup or settings, global league settings? Must be a unique causal agent, I’d think.
Edit: I assume you’re not controlling substitutions and the AI is.

I do control the changes. Here is where the difference is:
You can go into a game and quick sim to the 6th. From there you can quick sim to the 9th. Even though it shows you controling lineup changes for the game, when you quick sim bulk innings like that, the AI will make changes for you. EXCEPT when simming by the "Half Inning" option. I thought I had posted this before, yearrrrs ago. It's something I've just played around. But sometimes in the 7th or 8th, I like to bring in a reliever and then quick sim just that half inning...and no matter what he will remain in the game unless injured. IT ONLY HAPPENS during "Half Inning" sims. I often feel like I'm really gambling when I click half inning lol (League setup: I've always done current year quickstarts with very minor changes to default settings) Last edited by Baseballman2K5; 04-22-2018 at 02:07 PM. |

I wish I had a screenshot. If anyone cares to test my theory perhaps start a quickstart, quick-sim to the 5th. Bring in a new reliever each inning and sim by the half inning. I guarantee you will run into what I've described

May have a look at this later tonight, but here’s my cognitive quandary: if you’re controlling substitutions, why would the AI be expected to step in and override?

They do on every other "inning" sim option. you can sim 1, 2, 3, 4... innings at a time and the AI will take out a struggling pitcher/make substituions, so why not when "half inning" is used? If you bring in a reliever in the 6th, and quick-sim to the 8th...the AI will make changes...they may bring in a new pitcher in the 7th. Even when the options show you controlling the moves. But if you quick-sim just the half inning, no matter how bad the pitcher struggles the AI will not remove him. |

I just played about a dozen games from my fictional league simming a 1/2 inning at a time and have noticed pitchers being replaced in the middle of innings. It only happened two or three times which seemed kind of odd. I would expect more. In the settings my "hook for relief pitcher" is -2 and I wonder if I changed it to -5 it would happen more often.
Anyway, all my strategy/substitutions is set to AI controlled so I suspect that's why my results differ. Still it's an issue that should be looked at. |
