Gathering rust on the bench ?
The ST have some effect on players shaking of rust, so it has it's meaning. How about players sitting on the bench 5-7 days during regular season.
Even the thought about pitcher you might use only vs 1 batter. They might be on the bench too for longer times. Will they need to be shaking of some regular season rust to be 100% effective. I know you get indication of players being Hot or Cold, but that is more of a random stuff (I think). In real life a pitcher could get cold just by not getting to throw pitches in some sort of regular basis. This is after all a "math" game and the players state of mind doesn't play in even in slumps. Perhaps morale do factor in, lets hope so. A couple of hits and the morale goes up and everything is cool again. |

not 100% sure..
but if on an active roster and not rusty from offseason (ie got work in ST), i am 99% certain they are okay. they've said or it's in manual somewhere.. players are working out and staying in shape while on an active roster, or that's used in how they perceive things etc etc. here's the problem of proving anything.. if a guy only pitches 20ip over 162g, the results wil be inherently wild (volatility increases with small samples). also, the guys not getting consistent work are also more likely to be at bottom of the pecking order.. so they aren't that good.. likely below average players unless you have a WS-caliber team. then, they are liekly just average at the bottom, because why spend 8M-15M/year on a 40ip 6th or 7th RP arm. ai gm's won't let a closer or top-shelf guy go long without being used, that's for sure. it iwll use a closer if it's been "too long" since his last use even without a save opp. from what i've experienced in past versions. still have not delved into '19 with any seriousness, yet.
