OOTP Newbie's first impressions and bug finds
(playing OOTP5 btw)
I just bought this game, and at the moment am playing a historical season as the surprising 1989 Baltimore Orioles. I've really enjoyed myself so far. However, I've noticed a few things that puzzle me. 1) When I did the import, all the uniform jerseys given to the players were wrong. This didn't surprise me so much, however nearly every time I went to edit a player's jersey number, I would notice that other parts of their ratings would change automatically, even the textual scouting report. How would changing a uniform number heighten their ability to avoid giving up gopher balls? 2) I was quite surprised when I saw the news on Opening Day that young Yankees starter Chuck Cary threw a no-hitter in his first ever big league start, with the Yankees beating the Brewers 7-0. I was even MORE surprised when I looked at the actual box score for that game - the Yanks actually LOST 8-2, and Cary took the loss, giving up 6 runs on 8 hits. Don Mattingly, who according to the article went 2-5 with 2 RBIs, actually went 1-4. No idea what happened there... 3) I had game logs disabled on opening day, so I'm unable to remember exactly what happened... but the O's rallied for three in the ninth to win. Billy Ripken was at the plate when the tying and winning runs scored, but I believe there was an error involved in the play. I don't remember how the error actually occured. However, his batting average is still .000 and somehow he was credited 2 RBIs. He does not have any sacrafice flies or bunts. Sorry I can't provide more info on this. Other than these few oddities, this game is incredible. I've been a big High Heat fan up until now, and although HH still has a lot to offer, this is more up my ally for fantasy leagues and historical leagues. Looking forward to meeting everyone in the community. Thanks... hefalumps Last edited by hefalumps; 03-17-2003 at 12:07 AM. |

Regarding #2 above. Did you happen to start the season and then restart it again from scratch? I know that if you restart a season you have to delete all of the old news files, etc. or they will still show up.

Nope - this was my first league in my first ever time playing OOTP5. Dunno where it came from. I don't recall resetting anything before I played.

#1 - The ratings you see are the opinion of a league scout. When you activated the editor, you saw the 'true' ratings of the player. Editing the numbers brought out the actual abilities of the player.
Also, player uniform numbers are not recorded in the Lahman Database at this time. This is simply a guess, but I imagine somewhere down the road they will be included. |
