Questionable AI release?

In my franchise Team A traded their 3.5 star, 5 WAR/yr 1B starter on a 1 year contract and the 30th best prospect in baseball to Team B for $9,764,000, a 1.9 WAR/yr RP on a 1 year $4,200,000 deal, and a 4 star, 6 WAR/yr player with a 1 year $30,000,000 deal.

Team A then released both players they received. I'm not sure why they would do that.

Any thoughts as to the AI's reasoning?

This bug dates back to OOTP 17. When the AI can't find a roster spot for a DFAed player, they sometimes release them for some reason.
