Fictional/historic league - # of games

I am in season 32 of a fictional/historic leaguer and have run into an issue changing the numbers of games per season. My understanding is this must take place during the preseason period. I have manually adjusted (from 134 to 154) w/o generating a new schedule and the change did not take. Did the same the next season and did generate a new schedule, and again the change did not take. No doubt I have missed an otherwise obvious step. Any assistance would be appreciated

did you click the "generate schedule" button after changing the number of games?
