1871 Schedule

How do I get a schedule that works with the current 9 team system. I tried to load the one that comes with and it will not load.

If you have your league set up to recreate the nine-team NA, the schedule that came with the game won't work, since that is set up for an imaginary two-subleague format. What you need to do is load the 1871 "as played" schedule (major_league_ml_c_1871_ap), which is also in the OOTP19 schedule folder. There are also a few nine-team schedules in the mods forum.

Thanks for the pointers. But I tried the as played schedule and it will not work either. I saw an option to import each sub league. But not sure how that works.

I took a quick look in the game and the 1871 setup is ... well, it's sub-optimal.

As mentioned before, the game creates an imaginary format of two leagues, one of four teams and one of five. The league default setting in the Options menu is for a 30-game season with no interleague play. But the ML schedule included with the game calls for a 32-game schedule and interleague play. So that schedule won't load unless you do some tweaking. Also, the schedule starts on day 18 rather than day 1 - I honestly don't know how that happened or if it has any effect on whether the schedule loads or not. In short, 1871 is a mess - but then so was the National Association, so that's accurate.

Looks like the setup are AL with 30 game and NL with 24 games. I don't have a problem with that but all the teams play all their games the whole month of April and then done. I guess I could make my own schedule.

112 games balanced interleague 1882

after that the regular schedules will work

It seems as though the schedules got added before the default options got adjusted.

Here's a quick conversion of the two-subleague schedule that comes with the game. It's modified for the actual set-up of the NA in 1871 - i.e. a single nine-team league. I haven't made any other changes to the schedule. Anyone using this schedule should change the default settings in the Options menu to a 32-game schedule and no interleague.

revised major_league_ml_c_1871.lsdl

Since we have the Federal League (and the Negro Leagues) in the game now as minor leagues, how about the same with the AA, UA and PL?

I think it may be possible to fool the game into accepting the as-played schedule.

1) Move all of the teams into one subleague.
2) Import the as-played schedule for that subleague.
3) Move the teams back the way they were.

The game warned me a couple of times, but it let me start playing. What I don't know is whether it will come back to bite me later.

I did those and it loaded the as played schedule. I am going to do some testing and see what transpires.

There are no current plans to add any minor/other leagues to the 19th or early 20th century in OOTP19. Some of those teams and ALL of those players are in the current MLB only iteration of the game however.

And I've started the annual 1901 replay. What did it was the 15 team major leagues from 1876-1881, a period of time when there were 6-8 real major league teams. The number of OOTP MLB teams never went down during the entire 19th century, when in reality the number went both up and down a number of times. If we can't contract teams OR leagues, then an accurate 19th century replay is simply impossible.

It is hoped you can still expand or contract by hand as you always have as well as anything else you have found workarounds for. OOTP 19 is just another step along the way. It is simply more fun to play for the non-exacto gamers. For the exactos it is neither here nor there. I am sure more steps will be taken in the future.
