'Shop A Player"

Does anyone know for OOTP 19 if we can “shop a player” including more than just one-for-one trades?

And the ability to shop a player while offering to retain part or all of the salary. Able to get a sense of who's willing to give me some prospects if I eat half his contract.

I've seen this question asked before and I believe the answer was "no" it only works on one for one when asking.

You can initiate a trade from that screen, which takes you to the standard trade screen, and then add players, retain salary etc. You just can't set it up this way initially when shopping.

The whole trading engine is a little lackluster at times. I have had the AI suggest trades where it asks for my two top prospects in return for some washed up 36 year old relief pitcher who is on his way to the waiver wire. But it also works the opposite way sometimes. One time I shopped Bronson Arroyo just to see what he would bring, and I was offered several All-Star level players, including Strassburg and Kershaw. I avoided the temptation to "upgrade" and attempted to keep things more true to reality. I traded him for a much more common sense #5 starter - albeit a much younger pitcher.

Thank goodness for Commissioner Mode and the "Force Trade" button! Sometimes what the AI considers "fair" or "unfair" is in disagreement with what I think "fair" and "unfair" are. Hopefully those issues have been fixed in this version.

I think it also depends on your settings; both AI difficulty/favor prospects as well as if you are using the "stars" which I think gives players a bit more advantage (clarity) over the AI.

I don't use the stars anymore and I set the Trade AI at the most difficult setting, favor prospects and I have found it more of a challenge and more interesting.

To that, every version it gets better and I get the impression that in 19, OOTPD has spent some significant time on it.

I use it the feature to get a sense of who is interested in the player. Then I craft my own trade with the team. It’s a bit more work but it gets the job done.
