Runtime Error, still need help

Hey guys, game is great but I've hit a wall...

This is the third time I've posted so I'm really hoping to get some help. Two friends of mine are experiencing a similar problem. Upon the beginning of a new season, everytime I make a selection within the game (i.e.- selecting a team to view), I get a pop-up box that says:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime Error!
Program C:\program files\ootp5\ootp5.exe
This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more info.


I've got a Pentium 4, HP Pavilion
1.5 Ghz Processor
128 MB/ram

Any advice, suggestions or fixes???

Ok, can you give me the following info?

-What OS you are running?
-What programs you have running?(hit ctrl-alt-del and check the list)
-Have you run defrag and scan disk lately?
-How much free HD space do you have?
-Go to start/run and type dxdiag and tell me what version of direct X is installed?

Hey Steve,
Found out more specifically when the error occurs. When a coaches contract is up, the game isn't allowing me to make any selection other than manager screen otherwise I get that error (can't look at teams or anything else until after signing with a team and then after signing coaches and scouts). When I disable DirectX I get a similar error although the dialog is slightly different, but it is the same error. I appreciate the help, here is what I've got:

Operating system: Windows ME

Here is what is usually running:
Backweb Agent
Explorer
DirectCD
Hidserv
Rundll
Hidstrm
Motman
Systray
Osd
Hbztsp02
Qttask

Defrag and scan disk has been run twice in the last week and a half, thought it might help but didn't.

33 GB of HD space free

Running DirectX 8.1

I can suggest a couple of things but not certain if any of them will work. First, does this happen with any league or just one in particular? If one, have you tried "resetting" the season? Make a backup first incase it does no good.

Once you get back to me on these I can make other suggestions.

I am having the same issue.

It happened when trying to start a custom league, it would not even let me create the league.

I have
windows 98
and run pretty much the same as Purdue Brad.

Hey Steve,
I've had it happen on three different leagues that I've run and I've tried re-setting the season. I've tried re-setting one of the leagues but the problem still occured.
My roommate, who also bought it, has the same problem. It does it to us when we haven't signed a new contract yet (manager mode) and attempt to look at a team or do anything other than open the manager screen. The problem continues until after we sign coaches/scouts and then we can do anything. The biggest problem is that you can't see a team's roster before signing a contract so you can't really pick and choose what team you want to go to based on talent, you have to take a shot in the dark and hope you end up on a team with a good roster.

sorry for the other post, didn't check to see that this is already a popular topic...I've got the identical problem to these guys, but it's with every single league I have, both online and on my computer. None of them run. Makes it hard to export. like the others are saying, I appreciate the work you guys do, this game is AWEsome (when there's no runtime errors ) lol
