To be fair, most long term players are carrying over a save from version to version and didn't start a new save just to try this feature.

But, if it gets flushed out and people start raving about it in the next two versions there might be a shift

There are certain setups you can not do in Challenge Mode. until that changes I will not use it.

yeah, the settings and lack of customizations are the main block for me -- those things are also necessary for the challenge mode to be viable -- at least not too many variances or it will spread people too thin.

i bet with the 'younger' crowd the challenge mode is more likely popular (think i'm in the grey area between young/old when it comes to video game generations). they've been playing all their sports games online for the last decade or more now.

i have to admit, at the tail end of when i owned a console game system (ps3), i really did love playing agains people and being ranked etc. half way though a season i had the 5th? best skins record (top-10 on a couple leaderboards until i couldn't keep up with the people that made it their job to play tiger woods).

some guy bought/borrowed 4 ps3's and made it his life to top all the lists that year... so some good and some bad when it comes to the peanut gallery, lol.

i wasn't 'cheating' like the others with their less sensitive controllers that made it impossible not to be awesome, either... no! i taped a paperclip as a rail for the analog joystick to remain "square"... i am cheap, what can i say? must admit, the "2-axis?" controllers are still better than a paperclip anyday. they still had an advantage over me every game. every couple hundred swings i'd slice/hook one out of bounds if the paperclip shifted even a tiny amount which it inevitably did.

I play Challenge Mode because I assume that is the hardest difficulty setting while still realistic. After a few play throughs, I find Challenge Mode quite good in terms of balancing difficulty, fun and sense of reward.

I would make a couple of changes to the default / non-changeable settings in the Challenge Mode

1) Disable draft pick trading - AI will always undervalue 1st overall pick (for next draft) at the end of the season. This leads to me being able to pick 1st overall every year, by recycling a good/star player. This bug killed my interest in my earlier saves when I turned on draft pick trading.

2) Allow the user the option to turn off injuries for minor leagues. The major league trainer does not impact the injury frequency of your minor leaguers, so it's random when your star prospect gets torn labrum and out for 13-14 months. Everyone would agree we get attached to the star prospect we drafted / signed, and want to see them succeed - it really ruins the fun when they randomly get taken out for 1 year, or repeatedly gets hurt and gets fragile label. Come on, at least give us an option to disable injuries for minor leaguers for certain OOTP style of play.
