Randomly Weird Stats?
From Action Jackson posted elsewhere..........
"Please see here Have not been able to reproduce this in 3 tries and here = SOLVED, it was a typo for starters. The first link is all about offense being distributed in a manner that I think is near impossible without having inflated league-wide stats. Since the OP did not answer my question re: said league-wide totals, I cannot be 100% sure if the bazooka-ball (as opposed to, you know, baseball) level of offense is due to skewed league-wide totals or if the distribution is completely unrealistic, or a combination of the two. It is true, 1998 was a year in which baseball had historic levels of offense, but I don't think the distribution should be that out of whack with what went on IRL. For details on that, see my post in that thread. The second link might be the most ridiculous stat output I've ever seen in a historical game. How in the world does a guy strike out in less than 10% of his plate appearances, yet still bat just .152? He's extremely good at making contact (by today's standards, but possibly not that good for 1908), yet he's getting robbed all over the place. Was the opposing team allowed to use 30 fielders whenever this player came to the plate? What was his BABIP for cryin' out loud? He also hit 1 double in a season when he led his league in HR with 18. When's the last time that happened IRL? I'd say never, because a player with his kind of power is going to hit more doubles than that, even if they're by accident. I've heard of examples of multiple players hitting .400 from other OOTP players, including Juan Uribe. Juan Uribe should never hit .400 in any league (unless recalc is turned off, which in this case I'm fairly sure it wasn't) ever. I am in the midst of playing a random debut dynasty which has run 61 OOTP seasons (1901-1961) now in OOTP16. I use the 1984 season for my league-wide stat output, strategy settings, and player creation modifiers for every season, so that the deadball era is not as dead, and the bazooka ball eras are not as bazookaish. There is only one player in my dynasty that has ever managed to hit .400. Shoeless Joe hit .434 in 1939 and .403 in 1940. That's it. It shouldn't happen often because it's damn hard to do. Same thing with 60+ HR seasons. I've had one player that's managed a 60+ HR season in all that time. Mickey Mantle hit 63 in 1933. Only seven different players have managed even 50+ HR - Mantle (twice including the season that he hit 63 in), McGwire (twice), Reggie Smith, Mike Schmidt, Dave Kingman, Rocky Colavito, and Frank Howard. They're difficult achievements and should not happen with the frequency that I've seen and heard reported by other OOTP players since OOTP17 came out. Add in the fact that Neutralized Stats (which is what I use to play) are not supported beyond the stats of 2014 (OOTP16 came out in March/April, 2015 so historical games were based on stats from 1871 through 2014), and the fact that for some reason in OOTP18 it's more difficult to tie your stats, strategy settings, and player creation modifiers to a particular season without making your financials tied to the same season, and you can see why I might be more comfortable with OOTP16. OOTP is the best simulation money can buy. That's largely due to the countless hours of contributions from members of this community (especially yourself). That doesn't mean that it's completely flawless and can't be made better. In my view something went wrong with the statistical distribution across a league when OOTP17 came out, and I think the expansion from approximately 20,000 players (historical major leaguers) to approximately 160,000 players (historical major leaguers plus minor leaguers) has something to do with it, but doggone it, I'm not smart enough to track down what exactly went wrong, and I'm having way too much fun with OOTP16 to bother. If you want me to run test leagues with OOTP18 and give feedback, I'm perfectly willing to do so, but I suppose in order to do that, it would have to be acknowledged that there is an issue with statistical distribution in historical games, and right now I don't see that happening."

If you have a player you think is over/under performing please check his Real Life stats tab in the player editor and report any oddities in the historical portion of this forum. I am sure there are still hundreds that can be found. I find a few myself from time to time.
