Do Players Get "Cold" From Inactivity?

I'm not talking about when someone is in a slump and you see the little chilly icon, but if they haven't played in a while. For example, am I doing myself (and my pitchers especially, but hitters as well) a disservice by sitting them for the last 3 weeks of the season if I've already clinched the pennant?

I would play them once or twice in that time. Maybe redo the depth chart so their subs start more often. There is "rust", I do not know the exact details of how it is calculated.

assuming no rust to start:

during season and on an active roster they shouldn't accumulate rust.

first line about it in manual:
"Each player in OOTP has a certain amount of 'rust' after an offseason."

also, longer injuries... the more days off an active roster, the more AB or IP to knock off rust (that's in manual that it's linked to IP and AB not GP).

just because a player performs badly doesn't mean they are rusty though... think of the worst you've seen a similar player start off a season, ever... that's ~normal range of expectation (nearing lower limit).

as far as the "snowflake" cold symbol, i've never seen that while not playing.. think that requires bad stats to show up.. the feedback is reactive in nature. i could be wrong... i pay less attention to less used players

Yeah, the snowflake and fire are obviously just indicative of recent performance. It sounds like that if they're on the active roster for the time we're running out the string, I can sit them without getting rusty (and avoid those nasty last day of the year injuries).

yeah. i forgot i could have simply said:

i have a 'bye' in my playoff system and it does not cause any rust.

i see players sit for 7+ days often. plus, it would be incredibly counterproductive if they offered such a playoff format that allowed for such a thing to occur from the bye round... i think we'd all agree on that one. that plus the wording in manual, you should be safe.
