A few questions
I am relatively new too OOTP and I'm not really computer savvy. But how do I backup my save games?
Also, I'm also 15 years into my Mets save, and I've noticed the game slowing down a bit, is there anyway I can make the game speed back up like the way it was when I first started my save? If so, how do I go about doing that?? |

http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...97#post4084018 there is a purge function to get rid of old and deleted leagues and players ... it's under game settings in the file. It does do some weird things to your game. One it changes player IDs for hall of fame people. i can't recall exactly how to get there after the game settings ... as i'm not at my game. I'd only use it if your game really really really is sluggish. And i you do use it ... MAKE A BACK-UP before doing so. in fact, i make a back-up of my game after every session - giving it a new name (usually the game date). At the end of the season i erase all but one or two of those backups. i really sucks to loose 50 years as i did once because i didn't know how to back-up and restore. hope this helps. good luck

size of dB will help load times (the league itself, reports like leaderboards), but as far as simming day-to-day it will have minimal effect.
purge will cause some asthetic screw ups -- retired numbered links will take you to the wrong player. old news messages from before purge too. should not screw up who's in hall of fame or not or leaderboard type reports. if the slow down is massive and sudden, i'd look into # of threads being used... ensure that it is no more than # of physical cores... the "recommendation" will be wrong if you have a chip with 4physical cores + 4 nonsense cores that are just a gimmick 99% of the time. e.g. i have a i7-2600k that is ancient 4core / 8 (phys+log cores). intel calls it hyperthreading or some crap. i always turn this feature off unless doing somethign like video encoding.. i guess dB stuff would be good too. however, if the game says 8(recommended) when this bios chip feature is enabled... 4 when it is not. if i use 8, it's 1/10th speed of normal = very very slow. "4" is the right choice in my situation. if it's not massive and sudden simply go throug each page of options.. turn off asthetic stuff like pictures or shorten up how long you keep messages and transactions etc. it shouldn't be a huge difference, though. a purge after ~100 or more years might be the point it is worthwhiel.. i'd even suggest waiting longer. anythign you canged from default, review and see if that's the cause.. ~100,000 FA would be a bad sign, but 5-10k-ish is manageable, for example. probably even higher. |
