(EDIT: Just saw this schedule which was posted yesterday:
http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...d.php?t=283893 It appears to be uncannily similar to mine, but cleaner, so anyone thinking about using my schedule might want to give this guy's schedule a look.)
A while back I posted this schedule:
http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...d.php?t=271738
In that post I mentioned that I had to make some concessions to the "ideal" schedule that I had in my mind.
Well, good news everybody! I've since been able to fix up the schedule and eliminate almost all of the "concessions" that I had made. IMO there's no reason for anyone to use my previously posted 161-game schedule, so it can be removed from the master schedule list. This one is better in every way.
Anyways, here's the schedule description:
- Season is 162 games long. (81H/81A)
- Schedule is based on a standard modern MLB divisional setup.
- You play every team every year.
- Schedule runs April 1 thru September 28.
- No more than 15 games between off-days.
- 5-day all-star break is included. (July 13 thru 17)
- Every series is 3 games long, with a couple of exceptions as noted below.
- You play divisional opponents 7H/7A.
- You play league opponents 3H/3A.
- You play interleague opponents 3H *OR* 3A (2-year cycle) with one exception...
- ...I've assigned each team an interleague "rival" that they play 2H/2A each year, instead of 3H *OR* 3A. These "rivalry" games are played before and after the All-Star break every year (2 games before, 2 games after). I've selected rivals as noted in the attached image. In my league that I'm using this schedule for, I've had the Astros and D-backs swap divisions--so the "rivals" won't line up as logically if you're using a standard MLB set-up.
- In the last week of the season you play each team in your division twice, in a series of 4 double-headers. The idea in my head is that it's a little round robin tournament at a neutral site. I'm sure some helpful person on these boards could modify the schedule to make those games standard 2-game series (what's the plural of "series"?), but I'm not going to.
- As noted above, the schedule comes in two pieces. The only difference between the two is that all home games were switched to away, and vice versa. This is done so that over a 2-year span you will play all interleague opponents the same number of times H/A.
Remaining undesirable schedule quirks:
- Teams will have occasional stretches where they play too many home or away series in a row. In general I tried not to have more than 4 consecutive home or away series, but I definitely didn't meet that goal. One unlucky team has 8 consecutive H/A series. Getting this schedule to work took a lot of guess test and revise, and I don't know that I can fix it without breaking something else.
- Teams will occasionally play another team 2 series in a row (one series home, one series away). I think this happens to each team once per year (not counting the "rivalry" games).
Enjoy!
