Hey all.
I am just wondering something about retaining salary in a trade. I know it's percentage based. Does that mean that the amount retained will change year-to-year if the annual salary of the contract changes? I.E. if a guy is making 5 million one year and then 10 million the next, would retaining 50% go from 2.5 million one year, to 5 million the next? Or would it be fixed to whatever the amount is in the first year? Thanks to anyone who can help!

Pretty sure the 50% is a per year amount, to yes it will follow the annual value.
REALLY easy to confirm, just find a contract like that and put that player in the trade window. |

Thankya.
It looks like it doesn't apply to extensions, which I guess makes sense since that's a totally new contract.

True,
It does only apply to the "current" contract. That is something to consider when trading. BUT that also can be a plus when someone wants to retain only ONE year of a contract. As it stands now, the retaining of salary applies to all the years in the existing contract. The two parties would just have to be aware an extension will kick in. |
