Who was YOUR Ohtani / Stanton?

Who was your free agent or trade coup in your major league franchise? Who was that huge name you acquired that you actually whoo hoo'ed and actually felt like a real GM and that you accomplished something massive like you conquered your league?

Mine's a little backwards, but I managed to unload Victor Martinez's contract from Detroit and not be on the hook for any of the money. Was nice to free up $37 million over 2 years. I was thumping my chest after that one.

Playing as the Indians, in August 2017, I got Giancarlo Stanton for Carlos Santana and Francisco Mejia. Santana hadn't been producing for me, but giving up Mejia was hard. Stanton wasn't awesome for the remainder of '17 but won the AL MVP in 2018 and played a big part in getting to the World Series. Lost it in 7 games though.

You seriously parted with Mejia?!? That was a bold move Cotton.

For me it's Barry Black. He has a ton of Power when he when in the CBF. Most of my players are edited so i know what they will do. Black is not one of my edited players and without him we are not in 1st place.Having a player of his caliber locked up for so long will help Delgado after this season (my last with DEL)

Yeah, I have certainly rolled the dice by giving up such a nice prospect for Stanton and his HUGE contract. I really want to win the World Series and think the window on this pitching staff will only last until 2020. Didn't quite work out in 2018 even though Stanton had an MVP season. We'll see what 2019 brings. I have put that on hold as I'm playing another season of my fictional before getting back to it. I play out every game in both leagues so it takes me a while.

my success is largely based on international free agents have had 2 great hitters (3000 hits) and a couple decent pitchers. Although now the international FAs getting real weak these days as I am at the end of 2058 now instead of 2061 (overall total of 10 seasons GRR) .... lost 3 seasons due to issues and didn't backup each season. Did make a trade for a player who became my #2 hitting spot and he broke pete rose hit record he was traded twice before I signed him for 10 years then more afterwards took a chance in keeping him till 38 then did 3 year deal with options for the last 2.

The Marlins are fairly eager to dump Stanton in OOTP. I think his contract (especially the length) outweighs his value to the AI.

Seems like the real life Marlins felt the same as the AI...

Ha! I did the same thing. I somehow got the Dodgers to take VMart in a package deal for like nobody the 2017 offseason. Then they immediately released him. THANKS LA! Would never happen in real life I realize, but I wanted to try the Challenge Mode feature. Apparently those settings allow for such things to happen.

Unloading the Ellsbury contract and getting actual prospects in return. That allowed me to sign an international established free agent the following offseason, who's been worth a consistent 5-6 war for me and was a key member of 3 titles in 5 years. Ellsbury, meanwhile got paid $68 million to platoon with Juan Lagueres.

1) Acquiring Mike Trout
2) Getting someone to take Mike Trout when he was 35 and injuries had destroyed him and he was making $30 million.
