Cannot start game!

I have not touched OOTP 18 for the last 5-6 months.. When i tried to start a new game i get this message: "Loading of databased failed. It is either corrupt or a save game from an old version" and the game does not start. I tried from Quickstart modern day and i get: "Error, could not copy sqlite database to work folder". I have posted this issue on Steam forums and in the past 24 hours i have zero responses.. Can anyone please let me know how can i fix this & start a new game? Thanks

Sorry to miss this!

With that error, it's likely that the issue is that you have a non-basic ASCII character as part of your name in the data path .

The way to work around this is to use a different data path.

To do so, open "Game settings" -> "Experts" tab and select another data path for OOTP like for example c:\ootp18

Then restart OOTP and it should work.

I am having this similar problem. OOTP will run smoothly for a few weeks and then I will get the same error message trying to load my game. I have completely deleted Steam and have been playing the game off of a direct download from your website. I have tried to follow your steps but I did not understand them completely and can not get it to work. Any suggestions?
