Keyboard Shortcuts for ALL THE THINGS

OOTP has a well-designed but very dense menu system, which means that constantly using the mouse or touchpad to navigate can get very tiresome. This game really needs more keyboard shortcuts.

Bookmarks help a little bit, and I know about the F-key shortcuts for those, but for things like setting lineups, making transactions, promoting/demoting players, etc. everything requires multiple mouse clicks. Your starter gets injured, so you have to drag them to the starting lineup (or right-click and "insert into lineup) four times, or once for each lineup.

Suggested shortcuts (possibly made configurable?)

⌘ = Command or Alt modifier depending on platform
⌘-⇧ = Command-Shift or Alt-Shift modifier, depending on platform
^ = Control modifier
  • ⌘-F-keys for selecting top-level screens
    • ⌘-F1 - OOTP Start Screen
    • ⌘-F2 - Game Home Screen
    • ⌘-F3 - Manager's Office
    • ⌘-F4 - League Home Screen
    • ⌘-F5 - Team Home Screen
    • ⌘-F6 - Activate "Play" Menu or maybe "Finish Today"
  • ⌘-numbers (1-9) for selecting primary tabs
  • ⌘-⇧-numbers (1-9) for selecting secondary tabs
  • ⌘-[ and ⌘-] for back/forward in page browsing (like Firefox)
  • ⌘-arrows to navigate next player/team/league depending on context
  • Tab/shift-tab to change keyboard focus between panes in the current view.
  • Up/Down arrows to navigate selection between listbox items in current pane
  • Enter brings up secondary (right-click) menu for current item.
  • Ditch ⌘-A (About game) shortcut, as it conflicts with "Select All" in textboxes
  • Tap ⌘ (or maybe spacebar?) to open "Available Actions"
  • ⌘-X to "cut" (in the clipboard sense) selected player, ⌘-V to "paste" them into another team, DL, or whatever. (On Windows, ^-X and ^-V probably make more sense.)
This just scratches the surface of what's possible, and what would make interacting with the game much more enjoyable.

I would say Spacebar for "Finish Today" that is generally the key used to advance in other text based sims.

I like the idea of more bookmarks/shortcuts, but no way do I want to see them predefined. The current system where you can assign them as you please works just fine thank you

Totally reasonable response, but I think one could do worse than the ones I suggested as defaults. Right now, you can't even directly set bookmark hotkeys -- they just get assigned in order. Anything along the lines of making more of them and more of them configurable would be an improvement -- there's just *so* much mouse movement, clicking, and dragging in this game without more keyboard shortcuts for common operations.

Except they only allow F2-F10 which is not nearly enough, you're welcome.

Well if you bothered to read my entire post you'd see I stated I was in favour of more. I said nothing about only using the "F" keys, just keeping it user optional for assignment, you're welcome.
