How to properly set up depth charts in event of injury
Good Morning,
I am in an online league where we sim one week at a time, and entire playoff series at one time. I play as the Atlanta Braves. I lost in the playoffs most recently, because my SS Corey Seager went down with injuries early in the NLDS, and the AI decided to play Freddie Freeman at SS for the rest of the series (Freeman was not starting vs LHP and we faced mostly LHP). This, in spite of the fact that I had two other players with decent/good SS ratings. The problem is, I had those players as starters on my depth chart already starting at 1B and 3B. What I attempted to do was uncheck "auto-sync depth charts & lineups" and stuck the 3B as backup SS. But, it didn't matter because his job as starting 3B trumped his backup SS assignment. I have a similar situation now. I have a very good fielding SS Brendan Lange. I have Corey Seager playing 3B. And, I have Machado on the bench (we are in 2025 so he is older). Is it possible to do such an arrangement: SS - Lange 3b - Seager Bench - Machado In case of injury, I'd want to shift Seager to SS and play machado at 3B. Can I set that up on my depth charts, or using 7 day lineups?? Keep in mind I can't interrupt the sim of the series. Last edited by saturn2187; 09-27-2017 at 09:23 AM. |

It is not, I would really like injury specific depth charts to act as a buffer between my depth chart and the Ai decisions when I have an injury.

No. Afaik, it can't be done. A guy who doesn't start can be a backup at multiple positions in the same lineup. But a starter in a lineup can't simultaneously also be a backup in the same lineup. If you have a position with no backup, and he needs to be replaced then the computer will find the best replacement off the bench.
What you are saying, I think, is that in your LH lineup, you had Seager as the SS and you didn't list a backup. I always try to develop people's fielding skills (or sign people with multiple skills) to avoid that situation as much as possible. That's one of the reasons for the 40 man roster being used to choose the 25 man playoff roster. You can plug obvious holes that could be a catastrophe in a short playoff series. All games have inherent limitations. When I played my first month, by chance I examined some fielding metrics and saw some outrageous negative zone runs. That was from players at positions I never wanted them to play. I learned and luckily it didn't cost me much. At the end of the day, the AI doesn't decide who your roster is, how you trained or chose them, and how you make your lineups and depth charts. Ime, it's best to take as many decisions out of the hand of the AI as one can. Last edited by Drstrangelove; 09-27-2017 at 01:46 PM. |
