Different Star Ratings
I've asked this question before regarding previous versions, and I've never gotten an explanation. Why will a player have vastly different star ratings on different screens. Take the example in the attached photos. On his profile, he has a potential star rating of 4.5. This is also the rating on see on my lineup page, it's the one I saw on the draft screen, and it's the one that shows up on the trade screen. However, if I click the scouting report tab, he has one potential star from OSA and 2 from my scout. So what the heck is the 4.5 based on? OSA thinks he's a one, my scout thinks he's a 2, and some mystery person thinks he's a 4.5 based on god knows what. Can anyone please, I beg you, explain where that 4.5 comes from and what it means?
It is like this for many, many players. This is just one example. |

I believe the answer is: The scouting reports are historical (in the past) while the profile is up to the moment and based at least in part on most recent performance. That in turn depends on how you have these settings and, if you have current year stats heavily weighted, might make the profile ratings somewhat volatile:

Thanks for the response. I'm in Challenge Mode, so I can't adjust those settings. They are 65% rating and 20% this years stats.
It sure doesn't feel like the Profile rating is more up to date than the scouting report. If I make a decision based on the profile rating, it seems like I eventually come to regret it. Over time, the profile rating seems to come down to the scouting report level, not the other way around. This is all anecdotal, I haven't done any experiments to test that. |

The one thing I don't understand about the stars and how it relates to the scouting report is how the scouting summary will mirror the overall stars while each individual line seems to correlate to individual skill ratings. In other words a guy rated at 5 stars but who has terrible ratings at the individual skills will have an overall scouting report lauding him as the next coming of Albert Belle while at the same time saying he won't hit above .250

Thanks. I wasn't planning on doing anything with that player right now. I was just reviewing the overall health of my system, particularly whether I had enough middle infield prospects. WIth this guy, I wasn't sure if I should consider him a high ceiling prospect or a fringe type guy.
