Two "poll" type questions
I'm really curious about posing these two questions and hope to have a lot of answers. Here they are:
1. How many of you wipe out real players and put fictional players on MLB teams. 2. Have many of you found that you follow and dissect your OOTP teams and league more than your real favorite team and the real MLB? Thanks! |

1. Always
2. About 50-50. I'm a Tigers fan and haven't watch much of their disastrous season lately but I do watch a lot of the other games on MLB.TV & Extra Innings. |

1) Play online and that quickly happens - the transition actually quite cool.
2) No. But do have a vested interest in the teams I manage. |

1) yes* slightly adjusted MiL system, but a MLB organizations. i do move a couple teams to better markets... well for one it's punishment for wisconson's draconian shift toward education and teachers
(%$@# milwaukee for making the world dumber)2) yes well, my tigers suck again. knew it before last year, lol. so, i don't dissect poop very often. i still check in on box scores and see how the yougner players are progressing... a newspaper here puts out a "Minor League Report" article every month or so. was reading about avisail garcia when he was 17... now he's rocking out for the white sox and he's still young. i definitely more consistently dissect my ootp club more... simple need the main reason. if i engage ludicrous speed (faster than light speed -see Spaceballs for description), i take a hands-off approach to test out GM sliders. attempts to see what gives the most consistent success etc.. |

2. Yes To the point where if I mention something that happened with the Jays my wife will ask, "In real life?"

1. I start fictional so...no?
2. Of course I know more about my OOTP team than my real team. Couldn't tell you much about the Marlins farm system, but I know all of the Miami Tropics prospects, what level they are at, what my plans are for their future with the organization, etc. As a Marlin fan, there's not been a lot to get excited about, frankly in recent years. |

1. Almost always (I play fictional leagues, in other words). I tend to get upset when my favorite real-life players don't play well, and I find it affects my decisions in a way it doesn't when I have fictional players. My favorite player is Corey Kluber, and in both OOTP16 and OOTP18, I have never been able to get him to perform at an elite level (or close) for more than two years in a row, something he has done for the last 4 years in real life, and something I expect him to continue to do for years to come. When I see him have a Cy Young season in OOTP, and then finish with a 5.00+ ERA the next season, I tend not to continue playing the league.
2. Yes, and no. Even though I'm a diehard Indians fan that has watched almost 700 consecutive Indians games, I generally understand the depth my OOTP teams better than the real Cleveland Indians. I tend to be a lot harder on the real-life players, and tend to expect more out of them, because I have a better idea of expectations, whereas OOTP's expectations are based on ratings. If and when I do play with real rosters in OOTP, at least half the current Indians roster is gone (traded, released, or allowed to walk) within a couple of seasons, which is the kind of turnover you would never see with one of my fictional teams. |
