500/500 club
I've got a guy named Arthur "Rocky" Kammerer that is completely dominating my league right now. He's only 33 and he's about to become a member of the 500/500 club. He already has 532 HR and he has 449 SB. He rarely strikes out and has had at least 100 RBI each of the past 10 seasons.
I signed him when I was with SF and ended up trading him away to CLE because of financial issues but he wasn't nearly as productive as when he started playing for CLE. His career completely took off. Maybe he's from Cleveland and enjoys playing there. He does enjoy playing for a winner "sometimes", but Cleveland has finished below .500 several times but he has continued to blow up. The guy I traded Kammerer for, who is still with SF, also turned out to be a great talent. William Wilson was an unproven talent at the time who had played 3 full seasons and hadn't performed well at all, but I decided to take the chance on him. Turns out he hit .318 with 49 HRs the year I traded for him. Kammerer hit .279 with 51 HRs. At the time, it looked like I got the better of the two. Both continue to dominate their leagues. They both lead their respective leagues in OPS, HR and runs scored. Wilson trails only his teammate in RBI and Kammerer leads his league. Wilson actually has 311 HR at the age of 30 and seems to be having a career year. I'll post updates here as to how their careers are going. I think we may have an Aaron and Mays era on our hands! |

Oh yeah, I'm with Cincinnati now and have hate to play SF. I set them up with a great team but wanted to go elsewhere. They have finished first every year since I left.
Actually last year, they beat me in the first round of the playoffs and went on to win the WS. This was of course the year after I won the WS. Isn't that a kick in the pants? |

You know, when I first started playing OOTP about three years ago, I thought I would never enjoy playing with fictional players - I enjoyed the name recognition of the real MLB roster sets - but it is posts like this that demonstrate to me how much this has changed for me.
It is fun to have to dig into the stats and ratings of players to determine how they will perform and become a scout in a way in order to find your talent. Then, you get to actually "know" the players as you progress through season after season. It almost is more exciting than watching the real players that we have all come to know and love through real life baseball. |

I acquired Kammerer in a blockbuster trade that actually lowered my payroll!
Originally hoping to just dump payroll and still remain competitive, I ended up winning the WS, giving Kammerer his first ring! |

I certainly hope you took advantage of the "edit" function and nicknamed him "The Hammerer"?

Hadn't even thought of that! I'm afraid if I change his nickname, he'll disagree with it and start playing crappily (if that's a word). I'll stick with Rocky, it's worked great so far. Thanks for the idea though.
