All Spring Invitees Get Major League Contracts
When Spring training begins all of the players from the 40-man roster get dumped into the spring roster. That's not really so bad even though it would be nice if it wasn't automatic because I don't want to use options on everyone.
The real issue is that at the end of spring, all of the players with minor league contracts that are on the 40-man roster get major league minimum contracts. Players with no major league service time, but who are on the 40-man roster, get major league contracts. Am I making a mistake that is easily corrected or is this a bug that we should squash? |

That is the intended behaviour. You must use an option to send a player on the 40-man roster to the minors, even if he has never appeared in an MLB game. And once a player gets added to the 40-man roster, he will be on a major league contract (although note that if the deal pays him the league minimum, while in the minors he will only make I believe 1/6 of that amount). This is to mimic the split contract that guys will typically sign in those situations.

Also, remember to send everyone down BEFORE Opening Day!

FWIW none of my spring training invitees get a major league contract. Unless they make the team.
By definition they are on minor league contracts.
