Rookies demanding "Top of the Lineup" batting position?
I decided after the 2017 season that my stud prospect in AA would be my new 3B for the 2018 season. I call him up and after April he's only batting about .214 and he's struggling. Yet he is demanding/expecting to be in the "top of the lineup". Of course he's not ready for that and I play him mostly in the #7 spot for the entire year. My team is awesome, we easily win the division, everything is going great, everyone is happy. But the rookie 3B for the entire year is "Angry" that he's not hitting near the top of the lineup. (And his personality is fine. It suggests nothing that he's a greedy, disloyal player.)
I can not envision a scenario in real life where a 20 year old rookie called up from AA ball would ever be "angry" the entire year because he's not hitting in the top third of the lineup. I've played OOTP for many versions and rookies usually expect to be "bench players", then "starting lineup" and some, once good enough, move to "top of the lineup". But a 20 year old rookie demanding that? It's not a huge deal my any means but it is very odd. |

Is he a 1st round pick? That might have something to do with it. My #1 overall pick wanted to be at the front of the lineup the same year I drafted him

No, he is not. I'm playing as the modern day Red Sox. It's Rafael Devers. He's been in the Sox farm system for a number of years now. In my game, he played all of 2017 in AA then in 2018 played in the majors. But from day one he wanted "top of the lineup" treatment.

Ah, maybe he thinks his performance would improve in that slot. Perhaps it's an early sign of his future management abilities. Could be he thinks he possesses a specific factor that is being underutilized: speed, contact ability or potential, keen eye. Could be just one of the ever-present mysteries of life.
Regardless, it's a natural seed for a storyline, even if it's one you've internally created and reconciled.

When players start making demands of me
I trade the little dinks...usually to the worst team in the league, and for draft picks.
