Slow downs over time
Are there any yearly "prunings" that I should be doing to my leagues to stop this from happening? It's really noticeable that a league will slow down over a number of years. I've got one that is hitting 20 years now and it's really snail-like.

I noticed in the settings somewhere that you can delete old scouting report logs. You might try that, see if that helps.
Might also change the settings for how many game recaps/box scores you keep. I believe that is on the same screen. |

auto-save 1/year?
if you like keepng stuff, you should keep doing that... it does increase league size over time though... so, if it's mainly when the game is "Saving", auto-saving 1/year will help alot. compared to past releases, i don't see as much of a slow down over time... in the past it would get progressively slower and noticeable after just 50+ years. this year is nothing like that so far for me. it's immensely improved in this way, somehow. 20 years isn't long enough, typically, for # of players to be a possible source of a slowdown... unless you 3x, 4x+ the size of created palyers per year, then 20 is like 60-80... even so, you could try a "purge" - Global Settings -> Database : available actions menu. do as it says, make a backup first. this may screw up some small things like any retired #'s... it will link to the wrong player profile, you can fix, if you want by hand. (maybe they improved that this year, too? but, somethign to look out for or maybe a concern for you) also in settings, there is an option "Delete those that do not make the majors." That may help? Even if you keep everything, turn some things to On Demand, if possible. having prospects list redone yearly instead of dynamically is faster too. Delay wpa graphs until you open etc... anythign like that can help speed up a sim. if in League settings->Stats and AI you have "Forced" the game engine results in any league, this will slow the sim down an INCREDIBLE amount... avoid it. if you made any recent changes, review any settings changes. if may be somethign you've turned on or off that has caused the perceived slowdown. Look at what you are saving.
Save box scores? Save Replays? Save Game Recaps? Do you have "Delete Player who never reach majors" selected? Those are ones I tweak. I only keep Box scores and game logs for human organizations.

I went and got rid of the scouting report logs, and that seems to have helped some. But I've got everything set to only keeping stuff for human teams (I've only been a commish for this league as I'm trying to sim it out 20 years before I join a team) and I've got all logs set to None in regards to keeping them. Delete players that don't reach majors, etc.
But it's definitely slowed down over the years. I thought I read somewhere about deleting some news logs and messages every year, but I can't find that and it seems I've got that set anyways. |
