Trading for Bryce Harper, 2017 start.
So, I am curious if anyone could offer some rationale for why the AI would even make this trade available at all to me. I am playing a new 2017 challenge mode MLB game as GM / manager, no commissioner obviously. Trade difficulty is on its defaults, which is hard and I believe Neutral as far as preferrences.
So, that said, I was a bit shocked to find that Washington, which is also in Win Now mode, is overly eager to trade Bryce Harper, a guy who through 40 games has already got 4 WAR and is just lighting the world on fire to begin with, but is also one of the best players in baseball in general... They were willing to trade: Hisashi Iwakuma - $14 m / year and 36 yr old starter, 4/4 stars but still old and expensive, Lance Lynn - $7.5m / yr, 30 yrs old 3/3 star starter, so not real old but not a overall spectacular player, And Nelson Cruz, $14m / yr, 36 yr old that is going to decline ery soon and fast,a solid 4/4 hitter but still decline is very soon. Those 3 for Bryce Harper, 24 yr old that is currently 13m (though last yr iirc), already a 5/5 and IMPROVING, and is going to be a perenial all-star + potential hall of famer barring serious injury, as well as a cornerstone of any team. In a couple of years the players they get will have declined to over priced dead weight and he will still be one of the top 3 players... They also already have a very good starting rotation, so that doesn't particularly make sense to me. Also worth noting: They will pay 45% of his remaining salary to get this trade done... so I clear massive chunks of salary off the books, and get harper at around 8m for the year, and the ability to sign him (Likely would have the cash just by clearing cruz / kuma off the books..) Just seems crazy! I am curious what might be the rationale behind this? As badly as I want to do the trade because it'd be a huge win for my team, I can't help but feel like this is a very exploitive move, so I am curious for some feedback! If anyone needs more details I will do my best. Thanks! Also, I hate the developers of this game.... I have literally played nothing else for the last several weeks, and can't seem to break away from this damn game :P Last edited by JuJooGuppy; 05-12-2017 at 12:53 AM. |

I'm a huge Washington Nationals fan (been a Washington baseball fan since the ORIGINAL Senators... the ones that moved to Minnesota and became the Twins).
And every day for the past two years I've been wishing and hoping they would trade him. And am still hoping....

OldFatGuy (I kinda feel bad replying to that name! lol)
I would imagine that is primarily based on his attitude though, yes? I seriously doubt its based on performance. But I just feel like this trade is really light for such a talented player. I am just looking for more opinions on it though. Thanks for the feedback, I am surprised someone that has him on their team dislikes him so much... You wanna trade him for uhhh lets say Gamel? Lol |

Don't. I wear it proudly. (see screenshot... I use it as my name even in offline single player games... well, except for OOTP. Wasn't sure how to work OldFatGuy into a first and last name lol)

Fallout 4, how I love thee. So far, you have excellent taste in games (If not in baseball teams :P :P)
