Updated Position Ratings Formulas
Back in August I tried to update biggerme's old OOTP 13 fielding position ratings formulas for OOTP 17. Below are the results for OOTP 18 and the differences from last year.
Calculations per Position Legend: Green is Constant Value, Red is Relative Weight of Defensive Rating and Blue stands for Handicap for that position. P = ( ( (Infield Range - 125)/25*39.5) + ( (Infield Arm - 125)/25*6.5 ) + ( (Turn DP - 125)/25*3.25 ) + ( (Infield Error - 125)/25*15.75) + 308 ) C = ( ( (Catcher Ability - 125)/25*19.5) + ( (Catcher Arm - 125)/25*19.5 ) + 133 ) 2B = ( ( (Infield Range - 125)/25*21.5) + ( (Infield Arm - 125)/25*1.5 ) + ( (Turn DP - 125)/25*9 ) + ( (Infield Error - 125)/25*8.25 ) + 129 ) 3B = ( ( (Infield Range - 125)/25*13) + ( (Infield Arm - 125)/25*17 ) + ( (Turn DP - 125)/25*3.25 ) + ( (Infield Error - 125)/25*7.5 ) + 113.5 ) SS = ( ( (Infield Range - 125)/25*25.5) + ( (Infield Arm - 125)/25*2 ) + ( (Turn DP - 125)/25*8 ) + ( (Infield Error - 125)/25*7.5 ) + 93.75 ) LF = ( ( (Outfield Range - 125)/25*29.5) + ( (Outfield Arm - 125)/25*5.75 ) + ( (Outfield Error - 125)/25*4 ) + 149 ) CF = ( ( (Outfield Range - 125)/25*43) + ( (Outfield Arm - 125)/25*1.75 ) + ( (Outfield Error - 125)/25*3.5 ) + 78 ) RF = ( ( (Outfield Range - 125)/25*25.5) + ( (Outfield Arm - 125)/25*11 ) + ( (Outfield Error - 125)/25*4 ) + 129 ) Compared to the previous ratings, here are the changes in how OOTP calculates position ratings: P - Same as OOTP 13 (didn't run last year) C - Same as OOTP 17 (figured out the regression issue from last year, this is correct) 2B - Same as OOTP 13 and 17 3B - Very similar but there's a bigger handicap and slightly lower credit for each skill, resulting in lower position ratings at 3B. Changes are so minor it may only be the handicap that changed, I didn't use a huge player population. SS - Same as OOTP 17 LF - Handicap changed, Range slightly less important, Arm slightly more important, Error slightly less important CF - Same as OOTP 13 and 17 RF - Handicap changed, Range slightly more important, Arm less important, Error very slightly less important Essentially what I think the result of all this is will be that third basemen and corner outfielders will have lower defensive position ratings in most cases, or at least the good fielders won't have as high of ratings. First base also appears the same as last year: Quote:
