How to turn Off Career Ending Injuries?
Please remind me how to do this. I don't want players in a historical league to have a career ending injury before their actual retirement season.
This just happened to me with Barry Bonds in the offseason between 2000 and 2001. Ouch! Thanks |

isn't there a file i the game directory you can edit... make the CEI 0probability for any injury that it can occur?
search forums, or just look in the game directories.. root and maybe others.. there won't be many files you can open and edit with a simple text-editor. i've opened it before, if i recall it remarks the structure of the file at the top... use spreadsheet and find/replace in selection of the related column ![]() |

It's injuries.txt which is in the C:\Users\[name]\Documents\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 18\database folder.
The best bet is to import that file into Excel (comma delimited) and lay it out so you can see it properly. "Career Ending Possible Bool," column D, is the one that you want. Make sure that is all zeroes and save the file in text (.txt) format. * Then I would think that you "Re-import injury database" as shown below. This is how I believe this should work. Whether it does or not is up to you guys to discover. ![]() * Anticipating this question: How to save from Excel to text format? File, Save As. Don't save as Text (tab delimited) or as Text (MS-DOS). These will not work. Save the file as CSV (comma delimited) then change the file suffix. That is, rename the file from injuries.csv to injuries.txt.

You can also go into Commissioner mode, edit the player's injury to a reasonable amount of days, then go out of Commissioner mode and continue.

You can also use this injury.txt file, taken from this year's injury.txt file with all the Career Ending Possible Bools set to "0". It still won't stop CEIs from happening though because sometimes they can happen due to injury setbacks.

Interesting. That is what happened to Bonds for me. He had 11 days left from an elbow injury after being out about 2 months, and then poof, setback and career ending.

Injury time can be edited in the player's editor page.

Even if you edit the file, you can still have CEIs from setbacks.

I guess this something somewhat new to OOTP? All the more reason to add a checkbox/feature that says and does something like, "Allow CEI?"

I never liked the idea of CEI in the game. It's incredibly rare in real life. You have injuries to older players that they can't come back from but that's mainly an age issue. But you almost never see a young player who has an injury and poof he's done forever.
I can see having injuries permanently impact a players rating. Say a 25 year old tears his ACL and it lowers his speed and defense a small percent. I'd rather see the injury hurt their ratings permanently to the point they can't play at the same level as opposed to just saying a player can never play again (which never happens). |

this is somethign that is fairly easily researched.. odds are ootp has it about right -- the %.
it's a new injury system this year... so, maybe it still needs tweaks, but their %-targets will be solid. find and replace within a "current selection" to replace all with zeros ![]() |

I guess I'd rather see the injury lower his ratings to a point that no one would want him and he is forced to retire instead of the game just saying he had an injury and will never play again. |

the thing that "annoys" me about editing the txt file is everytime OOTP gets updated, you have to remember to reimport. Oh..and speaking of which, make a copy of the edited txt file because it gets overwritten when OOTP is updated. ![]()

keep a folder that mimics the strucure of your ootp directory. keep any edited files that the installer replaces in those mimic'd directories.. (you don't need empty directories, in case that's not clear) after patch, but before you load the game, click copy and paste of your edited files' directories over your game's root directory.. it will say: there is an existing folder blah blah... click check box for do for all iterations, then click copy/replace option. pow! all your personal files have overwritten all the patch replaced ones i also do this for my custom_folders.ini file etc... schedules, logos, everythign i have ever done custome i have in this 2nd location... archived and waiting to be re-copied in 2 seconds. **if the folder name doesn't match the main ootp diretory, that's okay.. you just have to select all within that 2nd directory and paste to mimic'd location - likely inside the game's root - i.e. ootp18.exe file is visible there. Oh, don't get me wrong...very simple way to solve the problem I agree. problem is I'm usually all giddy about the patch and fixes/features in said patch that it can't install fast enough and I immediately want to jump in and start simming to see the changes...it's only after a few sims I realize...doh.
I know, I know. I need to switch to decaf.
