Defensive Ability in 18

Maybe I'm mistaken about this since I just started playing around with 18 yesterday, but in my first ST I had a guy who was rated most highly in CF but didn't have the longterm skillset for that position. He had a limited experience in LF and I decided to play him there fulltime in ST to get him ready for a position switch. As far as I can remember he jumped all the way from around 19 in LF to well over 50 just from ST experience. It seems like other guys gaining experience at positions they have the skill to play have done so at a more rapid rate as well.

If this is really happening it's a very welcome development. There is certainly no reason for a guy who is physically skilled and adept at playing CF to take a year to become a competent LFer. This is just one step closer to making things feel more like real baseball.

It was an intentional change, we realized the old model wasn't really all that accurate and tried to change it for the better. Glad you're enjoying it!

That's very cool. I knew the descriptions promised changes to defense but I didn't realize it would work like this. It's a testament to the great product OOTP has been making for a while now that when a new version comes out a lot of us old soldiers sometimes wonder what makes the new version worth getting. This is a small change but a big one for me. I've also noticed a change in the contract negotiations, and these two so far are making the game a lot more fun for me.
