Can somebody explain this logic to me?

So, I started a GM challenge mode as the Cubs and for some Joe Maddon and even the bench coach, will not start a 5* Kyle Schwarber over a 1* John Andreloi I traded Szczur with the idea theres no way no one else would come in and still dont start over him, but its still happening and I just dont get this logic by the game.

Is it Schwarber's defensive ratings maybe? I know in previous versions of the game the AI would play good hitters out of position to get them in the lineup and had horrible defense (think Boog Powell playing shortstop) - maybe in this version they've overcorrected?

I do think the real life Joe Maddon is going to have trouble figuring out when and where to start Schwarber this year. His bat is otherworldly but his D leaves a lot to be desired.

Can you post a screenshot of Schwarber's rankings page? I haven't installed 18 yet (still playing 17 while I wait for some of the bugs to get squashed in 18).

As everyone saw last Sunday, the real Joe Maddon is starting the real Kyle Schwarber in left field batting lead-off. It's hard to blame OOTP's artificial Maddon for not being similarly imaginative.

I think it was lower when I started but after may he jumped from 3.5* to 5* in left

That's weird!

The Schwarber/Szczur thing was just a ratings issue. I adjusted the ratings a bit and Schwarber should start over Szczur in the next patch.

I can't figure out why Andreoli is starting over Schwarber though, that doesn't happen in my tests.

Schwarber doesn't have a catcher rating at all? Didn't he come up as a catcher?

He does have a (very bad) catcher rating.

I think the screenshot was taken with scouting on, and that messes up the ratings.

Yeah, his catcher rating was like a 25 iirc, but now he'll like randomly be the starter and then some random guy gets called up and will start over him in at least one of the lineups.
