Importing multiple players

Can someone show me the correct format for a text file when importing multiple players from one of the databases? I've tried it and only one player imports so I still have to do everything one player at time. I know it's the player id and year you select but I must be doing something wrong with spaces, commas, etc.

Having never done it don't hold it against me if it doesn't work OK? It looks to me like for every player you want to do playerID,year with no spaces in between the two. The example given is 1927 Babe Ruth, which would be ruthba01,1927 (no spaces). Give it a shot with whoever you want to import and lemme know how it turns out.

Where does one go to even find the player ID and what year should you choose?

You are better off importing entire teams if you are planning more than a few imports then you can just delete the league afterwards. This is what I do. I import the entire 1965 MLB,cherry pick the players I want too use and then delete the entire league's. Better this than looking for every players ID number.

I am currently planning to import MLB 1980 and keep the league from playing for a year that way I will have entire access to all their rosters. Also a good idea to freeze the rosters of the imported teams.

It's in the Master.csv file of whatever database you're trying to import from. If what Orioles1966 talks about is possible though, it might be rendered moot.

Yeah-If you have a league currently playing just go and import an Historical League and make sure you change the league start date so they don't start playing regular season games right away.

If you are going to only import a hand full of players it would be easier just to import them one at a time rather than importing an entire League. Plus if they are coming from different seasons it would be better importing one at a time.

I am in 1900 of a world right now. I feel like there is a lack of players in my league currently is why I am asking. I wondered if there might be some historical minors players I could import to add to the world.

My knowledge of 1900ish minor league ball is basically non-existent. I assume you're playing regular historical as opposed to random debut. The only suggestion I have is to comb through the MiLB Master.csv file and see if you can find some players to import. Tedious as hell, but barring any other suggestions, that's all I've got. I play random debut historical, which gives you 44 players per team to start, and with no minor leagues to stock I've always got plenty of players. I use a five round draft and that's plenty for me. One of the problems with that era if you're playing with injuries is the lack of depth because they basically had a player for every position and not much more. You could turn off injuries until you're clear of that era too.

You pick any year that they played so if you want them at the start of their career pick their debut year.

My situation is I'm in the middle of a league that's been running for 57 game years since ootp16. I just want to import a few negro league players from Spritzes DB each year. I made a short text file with a few names but when I import the text file only one player would import. So I'm just looking for what the text file would look like with multiple names.

Try PMing community member "The Game" (not "TheGame", but "The Game" - there are two different members - the guy with the space between the two words is the one you want). I know for a fact he's done it before and he should be able to help you by showing you a sample text file.

You can add a team to import to also. Otherwise the players are in the Free Agent pool as txranger suggested. To import Cal Ripken Jr. use

ripkeca01, 1991, bal

This will put him on the Baltimore Orioles.

powelbo01, 1969, nor This would put Boog Powell on the the Norfolk Tides (the AAA affiliate)

The name you use is from Baseball-reference.com. For Hank Aaron, search for his page and look at the URL address.http://www.baseball-reference.com/pl...aronha01.shtml

aaronha01 is the ID name.

I suggest you import one team at a time and verify the results. It's easy to make a typo.

In an online league I run, I want all players to debut each season at 18 years of age. So I sorted the master.csv by birthday. Then copy the column of player ID's. In Excel I then concatenate with the comma and year. Paste that into a text file and import.

I got a reply from "The game" and he had problems importing cool papa bell also when combined with more than one player. I was able to import Oscar Charleston, Rube Foster, and Fleet Walker together from one text file using the format txranger sent. I could import Bell individually, just not in a group. So there is an issue with Bell. bellco99,1922.

Thanks everyone!!
