League Idea

I want to start in 1871 with my own structure, but with the real historical players. How do I get the players in there?

After reading a few other posts I created a fictional league in 1893, then filled all the teams with fictional players. Released all players to free agency and deleted them all. Then I added an additional historical league for 1893 with real players to this universe, sent all the players to free agency and deleted the historical league. Now I have a fictional league with real players as fa's and I have a draft set for 1 Dec with real rookies importing. I simmed a couple of seasons and the rookies are correct for the year they started i.e. the 1894 rookies imported dec 1893. Sweet!

The issue your going to run in to is there are not enough players pre 1901 to fill a standard 16 team league so you'll either have to use ghost players without a minor league set up or have rookies randomly import from all eras. Either way you should use a reserve roster until about 1920.

Yep. I have 24 and am in season 5 (1897) Each team has around 25 players. This is in OOTP 17. I'm going to start over in 18 an have a smaller league from the get go.
