Would you find this fun?
Let me start by saying that i think the coach/scout system in this game pretty much sucks.
I have a team, and they suck. I am going to lose badly this upcoming year, i accept that. Now of course i want to rebuild, thats what i have been looking forward to the whole year i have watched my team lose. To be successful at rebuilding i need a good coaching staff, ok, so coach/scout singing period is very important, gotta get some good ones. HA! Well unfortunatley none of the decent ones want anything to do with me, they either 'want to work for a smaller organization' or 'dont like my organization', so at best im gonna be stuch with a bunch of average coaches/scouts. This of course means that my players will probably not improve very much at all, and i get to spend another season losing badly just waiting for another opportunity to be snubbed by the better coaches/scouts. Anyone see a pattern here? Now i do realize that there maybe some realism to the situation, unfortunatley this is a 'game', its supposed to be 'fun', how does one have fun in said situation? |

Coaches and scouts are important, but they aren't that important.
If a rebuilder is not really what you were looking for, quit the league. Some people (like me) enjoy taking a crappy team and trying to build it back to respectability- but you have to enjoy that process. If you don't, then you should look for a decent team somewhere else to run, and drop whatever league it is that you aren't having fun with.

Well, with my experience i would have to disagree, if the coaching staff is poor then the players just dont semm to improve, and many get worse. I had a poor coachng staff last season, and at least a half dozen players got worse, yet nowhere did anyone get any better. I think the coaching staff, if used, is important to the developement of the team. I am no a quitter, dont wish to quit, i just wish the game would give teams a fair chance of bouncing back. I still say its a 'game', yet it if you have a bad team (which is a tough enought thing) and then the game disallows you numerous players/coaches/scouts , then it also isnt allowing you a good chance a solid rebuilding. Of course it can still be done, its just going to take a lot longer. My beef is all the guys saying the dont want to play for me, which is &%$#@!*&, 90% of players/coaches will go where the money is due to greed. So while the game attempts realism, and usually does pretty well at it, in this case it doesnt even come close. greed makes the world go round, and it doesnt take much to see that.

Prior to OOTP5, I only joined leagues with no coaches. I like seeing everyone on equal ground in regard to that.

A good plan i wish i would have had. Do you think the coaching is improved in ootp5? My experisnce says it has not changed one little bit, but i will admit that i have'nt experimented enough yet to be totally sure. |

This doesn't sound so unrealistic to me to be honest, there are organisations in professional sports that many established coaches wouldn't touch with a bargepole and rely on hiring young coaches looking for their first pro job (Bengals, LA Clippers etc...)
Plus for every coach who wants a winning team or doesn't like your organisation there are at least a couple of decent ones who want a challenge or just want good money. Sounds like you just got unlucky this year. Next year you should be able to get a decent set of coaches but be prepared to spend well over the odds. I agree, the coaches/scout system isn't the best way to run an online league. This is just one of the issues involved. Personally I feel there is too much ambiguity about the scouts and the ratings shown on different screens to include this feature in my league.

You hit the nail right on the head there, im in 100% agreement. And i am certainly not knocking OOTP, its a great game, and continues to get better and better with time. |
