I'd say Shoeless Joe Jackson's 1939 season in my random debut historical qualifies for this. He played for the Washington Senators and the AL average slash line that year was .258/.319/.382/.701. He hit .434/.491/.664/1.155 with a 228 OPS+ and a 223 wRC+. That's gettin' it done!

After my team won the series, I scheduled two exhibition games the next year against the defending Japanese champions, which required some finagling of the spring training schedule. Good thing too because in the first one, Archie Bradley threw a perfect game! First one I've ever seen.

On Opening Day, both pitchers went the distance -- in an 18-inning game. 470 pitches combined, without any relievers. Mind you, it was 1902... :
