Best way to develop pitches
Hey all!! I have had 2 pitchers with 5 star potential who never could get their 3rd pitch ratings high enough to be anything but a reliever. Both had high potential on the 3rd pitch but neither came close to it. Is it best to leave them in the minors, where they will at least start every 4th or 5th game and get their innings in or would it have been best to promote them to the majors and let them relieve against stiffer competition. I appreciate any help.

I believe if you use them as relievers, they will abandon that 3rd pitch. Definitely start them. If it was control issues, then they could be an effective reliever until they develop more. Sometimes the 3rd pitch develops, sometimes it doesn't.

Depends on the potential of the pitch. If it's the pitcher's highest potential pitch, the RP might throw it more often. Does the game decide which pitch a RP throws based on overall or potential?
Probably best to develop that pitch as a SP, though. |

Work ethic and intelligence also play a factor, as does the quality of the coaches (if you're using the coaching system).
