How Do You Pull Off a Major Trade With No $$ Available?

Trying to find someone who is having a good season without giving up one of my top 5 players. Can't find anyone who wants a gold glove C for a power hitting 3B or 2B.
I need suggestions.

I always do shop arounds and find a team wanting the player then wheel and deal minors with that player to upgrade to something better.

I got lucky. I have 1 league where I can purchase players from and one guy was making 15K. Now He is a 1.5 star guy but can play 2B & SS and can run. I also was offered a trade by a CBF team for a C with power who kills LHP. They wanted one of my bullpen arms I countered with a 10 arm C who can not hit and a few minor leaguers.

among other ways, you can include a heft contract form their team - like an aging veteran.

it may require you to give a bit more in the trade, but at least you can get it done.

otherwise, if your cash cap can't cover it, you simply can't do that trade because the other team cannot afford it.

keep being creative with your packages... i will use a base player i have no intention of trading to get a response i know and what is up and down from that verbal response - that way i can see as i add and remove 1 player at a time to that existing trade base the gm's reacion to that 1 player even if he's too weak to change the response in an otherwise empty trade.

so, with this method you can easily swap out MiL players in yours or his organization and see how the verbal respons changes... you can find out if that gm values your 35pot SS more than your 50pot SS. maybe you like one better, and want to check the alternative... whatver reason it is, learning how the opposing gm values your prospects will let you put together the best trade for your team while paying the least. once you find some prospects the gm likes you can get what you want for as cheap as you can possibly and willingly get it.

better prospects don't need this method, because you can tell immediately by the response when they are added alone to the trade. it will jump mfrom "insult" to "i need time to think" or at least something above what's akin to "give me alot more to consider this".... you should still do those guys one by one to compare how that GM values them... and of course make use of their weakness/strength color code - you won't have to swap out ALL of your prospects... stay relevant to context.

I keep a record of what teams have made offers for players I "shopped around." Those can be the guys you can throw in during negotiations to make a deal work. (It's also true that teams attempting to unload a contract will offer Joe Overpaid no matter whom you shop, so it isn't always a sign of genuine interest.)

Also bear in mind that your opinion of a player in your organization might not be shared by everyone. That guy who's ranked as a top prospect by the OSA, but you and your scout think he's a no-hoper? You might be surprised what you can get for him. Then in three years you might be surprised when he's in the majors and lighting up your pitchers, but if you weren't going to promote him anyway, you still might have made a good trade.

I know you're trying to trade salary for salary and stay at the same payroll, but a prospect the other team likes can still be the chip that makes that work.
