Shuffling Minor League / Major League players throughout season
Does the frequency of promoting / demoting players during a season affect how they develop? I'm playing a historic league and tend to shuffle players quite a bit, especially when an active roster player is on the disabled list. Should I be careful of how many times I move players between the minors and majors during a season?

if it has an effect it's quite small - i don't think it does based on experience.
what curveballdave speaks of is more likely real though... i think it's likely that the league level will affect maintaining and developing of ratings. but, the actualy promotion/demotion is not the cause of this. it's simply a constant force applied to all in the same way. (then each individual may have different results based on personality and whatever else is relevant) even that i think is much smaller effect than i thought in the past... i've recently micro-managed my mil for the last 10 seasons or so now... i leave 'lesser' prospects at each level to create winnign teams, while 'better' prospects are promoted as they are deserving... so, i have a ton of players supposedly "stagnating" at lower levels. i do not see a major difference in frequency of lost ratings or gained ratings for these players... they develop fine hitting .400 in single-a when they should be tier or 2 above. I;m not saying it's necessariyl non-existent, but i am defintieyl saying it's much smaller force than most 'feel' in the forums. (including how i used to perceive it) i think this is because the AI liekly doesn't consider how many time a player has moved over a small period of time... so if it ignores it and does it all the time *and it does do it*, then it would have a severe impact on the AI developing players if it was a major effect... they aren't going to sabotage the entire development system with a major impact from a likely AI behaviour. |
