Excitement building for new fantasy draft
I thought I'd share my story of my two franchises and where my excitement lies. A couple of months ago, I took control of the Atlanta Braves as GM. I cleaned house in the major league level and hired a new manager, ass. GM, coaches, the works. I gave control to the ass. GM and let him do free agency, make trades and take the team where he wants to go. His rep was an Excellent GM when I hired him. I have been watching his moves and anticipating the new season to see where the Braves go under my hires.
Then....I decided to do this.... I thought..."What would it be like to do a fantasy draft of today's players and pick the ENTIRE organization?!" I decided to do a fantasy draft with the Royals and pick EVERY single player of 297 rounds. I have kept all of the staff except for hitting coach Dale Svuem (sp). But I am picking every player thru every round. I am finding more gratification and excitement by doing things this way as I am responsible for how the Royals and every farm team does! Did I build a mega franchise? Have I blew the Royals for the next several years? Playoffs year after year for the majors AND minor league teams? My anticipation is also building from my prospects! I was actually able to draft Alex Bregman, Yoan Moncada, Huascar Ynoa, Trea Turner and Riley Pint. Not. A. Bad. Haul. My starters: C Russell Martin, 1B Miggy Cabrera, 2B Ian Kinsler, SS Didi Gregorius, 3B Todd Frazier, LF Matt Joyce, CF Dexter Fowler, RF Matt Kemp. And my ace is Clayton Kershaw with David Price as my No. 2. Many questions. And many answers to come once the whole organization is built! Can't wait! Love to hear your thoughts and opinions! Thats pretty fun doing the fantasy draft with 16 players for sure! I always find myself drafting for the future and being a doormat for the now for some reason, even when i try not to! Seems like youll have a respectable team and a good minors to start. You should post this in the dynasty forum so we can follow! Good luck!

Just curious, my experience has been in trying to do this that the AI chooses only prospects. Did you feel it was more balanced?
Also, does anyone know if there is a way to have a full fantasy draft and keep current contracts? |

I just might do that jparker. I dont know how long it will take me to get thru a season, but if I feel I can really give a good Dynasty report for this, I just might do it.
DaBears, seems pretty balanced to me. I haven't noticed anything that really tips the scales one way or another. |

KC, did you find a way to use current contracts, just take what was assigned post-draft, or reset through the generate fictional contracts function?
Good luck! It will be interesting to see how your season goes. |

If I follow you, DaBears, I used the Entire Revenue is Available with no salary cap. .....I think. I know that's what I set when I went thru the Game and League Settings. The reason I say "I think" is because I am not sure my answer is direct to your question. But those are the settings I used.
Oh, and thanks for the luck. I would like to post it like everyone else's and I have tried to do two different franchise / fantasy draft postings before, but they just didn't quite work out. I have a bit yet to go as I am only up to pick #82. Last edited by ForeverRoyalKC; 01-14-2017 at 06:27 PM. |

I've done so many fantasy drafts it is crazy. I have never even considered doing 297 rounds. I usually stop around 50. It is a lot of fun. Problem I have is after I get going I start thinking about all the "what if's" and delete the league and start over. Like what if I took starting pitching the 1st 3 rounds and built a monster staff and fill out the lineup with the best of the left overs?
In fact just talking about it makes me want to do it again.. maybe the top 4 power hitters I can get in the first 4 rounds? |

KC,
Sorry, was offline for a couple of days so just seeing your reply. My question was more to keeping current contracts of players when you draft them. I have read other posts about it, and it appears you simply cannot do this. Once you do a fantasy draft, the game assigns fictional contracts to each player and you go from there. I do wish there was a way to change this as it would be nice in solo play to start out with a team you draft against the AI managers, but have it be realistic in terms of contracts. Update us on how your game goes! Da'Bears |

I usually do exactly that, going after front-line starters in the first 3 rounds, then add a shutdown closer and then pick hitters. Once all premium players are gone I draft for the future and load my team with prospects ... but like you, I normally don't go past Round 50 unless there still are interesting players available. Once there are no players left that i really have to have on my team, I let the AI do the rest.
